I'm currently looking to purchase a M1330 and wondered if there's anything I should look out for when searching?

For example LED screen over CCFL?

Also what else should I look out for? Replaced MB or GPU?

I've read about some overheating issues, could they have been fixed?

which is better red or black...

I wouldn't purchase at all. You are buying a ticking time-bomb - the nvidia chips are faulty, they will break. Doesn't matter if it's been replaced or not. It's a shame.

    Purchase another model!
You are going to put money into older technology, and a known faulty GPU. This model (along with the 1530, is currently retired from Dell's site).

When, you can put your $$ in a newer Model/Brand that you don't have to worry about any issues.

If you are looking to save money and want to stick with a Dell brand...right now you can get some decent deals at Dell's Outlet there is 20% Savings now at the Outlet on Lappys/Desktops (w/coupon code).

Here is information on the 20% Savings... LINK

I would only get a 1330 if there was more then 6 months on the warranty.. So that you could get replaced with what ever the xps 13/14 that comes out in the fall-

Should be enough time to get it to fail to the point of replacement - and a replacement should be available

    otherwise- Avoid.

If I were you [toPh] I would stay clear of the M1330 and instead buy a more reliable laptop; preferably one that is new and if not with at least a one year warranty.

You know, I think you'd be fine with a used M1330 as long as you didn't get one with the Nvidia GPU. At that point, there probably isn't anything mechanically differentiating it (for better or worse) than any other used laptop of the same age and it comes down to whether or not you'd want to buy any used laptop without a warranty...

Even with Intel graphics the M1330 is still a dated machine, I think he should try and get a newer laptop. Furthermore, in my experience he is likely to get one with the Nvidia since that configuration was far more popular.
