First off let me say this. If the XPS was a car, it'd be a viper. If it was a human, it'd be a lingerie model. Or something of equivalent sexiness. And like any piece of art, it has to be seen in person to be really appreciated. Though it be a machine, it deserves a name, so I'll call it/her Amaranth (it's a shade of red :) )

My initial excitement aside, some quick things (Specs are in sig). My primary concern before finally buying was with the screen, but now I can put my fears aside. The WGXA+ screen is gorgeous, and I'm sure that applies to many people. Seems most complaints are for the WSXGA+ Samsung screen which has bad grain issues. So if you're in doubt, just go with the 1440x900 resolution. Mine is LG, very bright, good viewing angles, colors are clear, though I'll need a bit of time to get used to glossy screens. Seems most people are getting LG panels for this resolution, and I've even heard that the Samsung WGXA+ screens are excellent too!

Mmm nothing else really to report. I have a bit of tweaking to do with Vista, getting used to it and quickly starting to like it. Overall construction feels solid. And premium. It's like Tropicana (Lots of pulp, mmmm) vs Sunny D (yay artifical flavours! ) when compared to my old Inspiron. Amazing analogy I know :D . Here are some quick pics, I hope to post more thoughts and pictures of recent games running, soon.

Well enjoy! Off to play with Amaranth now. Cheers.

Congrat's you finally got "her", and found a name ~ "Amaranth"!! I like it!!! It's fitting!!! Those are great pics! You will love the lappy, it great! My only issue I have is a slight "shock" every-so-often near the touchpad (have to contact Dell about, yet).

Grats. My replacement dell also had that centrino sticker and it could be the penryn sticker or just the new centrino sticker since i have t7500 and that's not penryn.

Are most new Inspiron 1520's WGXA+ screens also good LG ones, or is it just XPS 1530's ? XPS might be worth the premium if I'm guaranteed a quality screen w/o hassle.

Mmm it's not Penryn, I just got the T7500, 2.2ghz processor. Not the Product Red or whatever. Not sure what's up with the sticker though, I guess it's just a new one.
