I have been saving up to buy this dell,
Dell XPS 15 intel 3.1 i7 8GBram 2GB nVidia ,750HD L502x, 720p 15.6"
I have heard terrible things about dell could anybody let me know whether this would be a wise investment?

A computer is not an investment. Its monetary value declines the moment you receive it.
Only you can decide whether it's worth it to you. These forums are over-populated with people complaining. Any brand and model of computer you consider will have forums with loads of people saying it is terrible. Many of those users are unable to solve their own minor issues, and wouldn't be totall happy with any computer. You need to take forum comments with a grain of salt, as the thousands of happy owners tend not to post.
The XPS 15 is a good laptop for the price. It performs well and looks good. The HD screen is excellent, and I love the backlit keyboard. I've used many laptops, and I'm pleased with this one. -
Well, I'm quite happy with my XPS 15 and would gladly recommend it (in fact, I already did to quite a few people).
But then, the final choice depends on you, any laptop will have its flaws and quirks. -

i think most people on these forums would advise you to get the 1080p screen instead of the 720. its probably the best selling feature of the xps 15 laptop.

You do not need the 2GB Nvidia graphics card. The Nvidia 540m can hardly use up all 2GB of memory. The 1GB version will do. Invest in the 1080p screen or else there's no point in buying an XPS 15.
There are numerous, cheaper, and lighter Asus computers that offer Core i7, 6 GB RAM, and Nvidia 540m graphics. -
Thankyou very much i think i will stand by the dell i heard they were unreliable so thaught i would look for personal experiance, thankyou very much.

More people are willing to complain rather than praise. I have an XPS15 and I think it's a wonderful machine. Apart from 2 days after the warranty ran out the hard drive packed in, but other than that I think it's excellent!

Go for 1080p option it's worth buying.

I have recieved my on 5-th of january , and i love it it is fast , not the best looking machine out there but very good , the speakers are superb .
if i want to start nitpicking i would say that it has "only" two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port and you cannot see the Hdd led flashing when the HDD is active ( it matters to me ) , originaly was going to buy ASUS but then i have seen the january special offers from dell and realized that this is the best specced laptop on the market in my budget , the original price was over 1000£ , i have paid 688£( i have freedelivery voucher and 15% off voucher + over 400 discount from dell ) . i was searching for new machine for weeks and in this price range ( under 700£) this was the best hardware ( at this moment ). -
yeah really ! what were they thinking
Shall i? Dell xps15
