I just got my new XPS 1530. There's a small metal rim around the keyboard. In one place it's bent so 2 of the keys hit it. You have to press them just right in order to use them.

My question is, should I ask for a replacement keyboard or for a whole new computer?

If the problem is confined to the keyboard, then just get the keyboard, less hassle.

I would ask for a replacement keyboard, that is an easy fix ~ as long as nothing else is wrong with your new lappy. Before you call for a replacement keyboard, be sure to look it over thoroughly to make sure there are no other problems ~ if you have any other notable problems, etc...then you might want to ask for a replacment..being that it's brand new.

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I ask for a new keyboard, what should I expect? Do I mail back the computer (at my cost)? Do they ship out a new keyboard that I install? Do they send out a competent person to install the keyboard? Before I call, I'll be sure to examine it thoroughly to see if there are other problems.

They will ship you a new keyboard.

What kind of warranty do you have? Do you have onsite? Where a Tech. will come to your house to fix? You shouldn't have to mail your computer back to them for something such as replacing the keyboard.

And, if they were to tell you that you had to mail in your computer...Then, I would tell them that you were w/in your 21 days of invoice..and you were simply returning it for a new replacement or refund then ;)

And, yes they do send out competent people to repair your lappy, I had my motherboard replaced...all was good!

    Cin ;) :)

I didn't buy anything extra for the warranty so have whatever Dell offers for default. I thought it was for 1 year but the invoice is rather confusing, which says:

    902-0941 1 Warranty Support,1 Year Extended
    950-3338 1 2 Year Limited Warranty
    960-8710 1 Warranty Support,Initial Year
988-5608 1 Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Extended Year(s)
970-2321 1 Type 3- Third Party At HomeService, 24x7 TechnicalSupport, 1 Year Extended
988-5607 1 Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Initial Year
984-2350 1 Type 3- Third Party At HomeService, 24x7 TechnicalSupport, Initial Year

    BatBoy, thanks for the link.

Yea, its very easy to repalce the keyboard yourself. IMO much easier than trying to coordinate and wait for a tech to come out (not to mention give directions, wait around when they're late, etc).

Replacing a keybaord is far more easier and alot less cheaper. try google for 'replacment keyboards' or check this out http://www.suntekstore.co.uk/keyboard-for-dell-inspiron-6000-6000d-9200-9300-d510-xps-m170.html :)
