So I'm tired of my Inspiron 1520 and I actually want lug around a notebook to and back from school that is lighter and smaller. I'd like to purchase an M1330 but wondering if I should wait for a refresh of this laptop with new processor options (Penryn), SSD drive cheaper, build quality good, etc. What do you guys think?
-
They have killer deals currently on the 1330 (to clear stock). The new model processor versions will be a lot more money because they wont be on sale. If it was up to me, i would buy now.
-
It depends how badly you want a new laptop. The only reason I ordered the m1330 is because I do a lot of work in coffee shops, or I have to bring it to the office for one reason or another. I was sick of lugging around my insprion e1505, so I got the much tinier m1330.
I love it. It is super small which makes it really convenient.
If you are willing to wait, then wait. But, I couldn't wait...carrying around the inspiron was killing me. -
Maybe I should get an Eee PC...
-
The Eee is great as a secondary computer... but I wouldn't want it as my primary machine. Tiny screen, tiny keyboard, not too powerful. BUT... it's super small and light.
If you want to keep your 1520, the Eee may be a good choice. If possible, see one in person before buying... or you might not realize just how small it is. -
So, I think it is a good idea for you to check one out in person and, if possible, use it for a few hours to see if you can live with it. I couldn't. -
swapping between the tiny Eee keyboard and a full sized one is very frustrating. I think the Eee's keyboard is even smaller than my sharp mm20's, and swapping between the mm20 and m1330 drives me insane. If you are a "I want the latest and greatest nomatter what" kind of person, wait a couple of months for the penryn update and possibly slightly cheaper ssds. if you are like me and got tired of waiting for penryn and want to save a lot of cash, get the m1330 now. I managed to save 1k on this m1330 between the epp discount and the 800$ they were taking off around christmas time, and it was very much worth it.
-
The m1330 is a phenomenal machine. I, and tons others, swear by it and haven't gotten any headaches or problems relating to the size of the keyboard.
I use mine as much with the full size keyboard and 22" monitor as I do on its own and its fine.
The poster above was absolutely correct in stating that prices are absolutely incredible right now. In fact, its like getting your SSD at well over half the price if you factor in the price of the whole system just a few weeks back.
I might still try the purchase over phone and state that you would really like the SSD but its way too expensive. They will probably still cut you a couple hundred break on the ssd which has been commonplace for those who have approached it in that fashion.
Good luck and don't be afraid to check out my How To articles below or any of the SSD ones as well. The samsung is in their and tested which is the Dell SSD. -
When they refresh the M1330 with new processors and such, you think the remaining stock of older components will be on sale for an even cheaper price than as of right now?
-
Funny you ask this question, I was in the same predicament a few weeks ago.
As for the question above- of course, if you wait long enough, it will be less expensive. If you need help getting a great deal, you are in the right place. You can use my EPP code if you like, and save 12%. -
I don't know about waiting. Right now there is just an absolute incredible deal going on.
T7500 2.2 GHz
Led Screen
3 GB RAM
250GB 5400 RPM hard drive
8400 GS
6-cell battery
3 year in-home warranty
I got all this for 1200 with next day shipping. This is using the $799 discount, the 10% holiday discount (I think this is still valid for another 2 days!) , and an 8% student discount. Saved me well over a thousand for a great laptop. -
-
the penryn processor is going to bring the price back to 1500+ .. and i read the article on anandtech that the battery time increase is only about 10%... and performance increase is minimal.. heat is less tho..
i bought mine 2 days ago for a killer deal.. i think the savings well out weights the benefits of a penryn cpu -
There is no remaining stock as Dell doesnt keep stock on hand but they will get the old processors cheaper which is why you are seeing better prices now.
-
I want to purchase a M1330 ASAP before the deals run out. What kind of discounts can I get and what's this code for 10% off? And the $800 off? How'd you get that?
-
You can get an EPP or student discount. Thats usually anywhere from 8-12% depending on the cost of your laptop configuration. The higher it is, the higher the discount. The 10% off was a holiday coupon that Dell was running, but my coupon says that it expired on the 24th... The 800 off is the instant discount that Dell gives when you select their "best" configuration.
Should I purchase an M1330?
