My XPS 15 L502X 15.6" display currently has a resolution of 1366x768. I am debating whether or not to upgrade to a full HD 1920x1080 screen.
Given all the following factors, please give me your opinion on if it is worth upgrading my 15.6" display.
- This laptop is 3 years old, but is in good working condition. If it is already 3 years into the computer's life cycle, is it worth buying a $150 upgrade? Or should I just wait until this laptop goes bad and then buy a new one? It hasn't shown any major problems yet.
- The screen upgrade will cost a total of $150.
- The 1080p screen (B156HW01 V7) has very high color gamut (95%) and seems to be one of the best 15.6" 1080p displays in the market.
- My main uses include school work, some gaming (ex. FIFA 15, MS Flight Simulator) and multimedia (ex. music & short videos).
- The other specs of my laptop are fairly good and would work very well with a 1080p screen (i7 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM, GeForce 540m 2GB).
- Many reviews of this particular laptop have said that 1366x768 looks terrible on a 15.6" screen compared to 1920x1080 and that it is fully worth the $150 upgrade. BUT I need to consider the fact that my laptop is 3 years old.
Thanks

If the eyecandy is worth 150 for you then go ahead. I think you can have another couple of years of life left of the laptop pending whateve good fanless that will come out by the end of the period.

well having upgraded mine to 1080p about a month after purchase I can tell you it is extremely bright - I use it permanently on lowest brightness except in direct sunlight, the colours are fine although horizontal viewing angles are pretty poor. best thing from 1080p is the sharpness and increased viewing real estate. As a negative, our graphics cards really arent designed to play games at native resolution, although in perspective, my sister just bought a haswell i5 and my machine almost doubles its score in 3dmark 06. Realistically you would have to spend a lot of money to get a big increase in performance so i would suggest go ahead with the upgrade and get an ssd if you dont already have one

Just wait and get new laptop instead of upgrading the screen.
Should I upgrade my XPS 15 L502X to 1080p?
