    Sup people.

    I'm going back to college late august and I was wondering if I should wait for new systems or buy a studio 15 notebook*?

    I'm not much of a gamer(I have a desktop for that), but I'd like to have some kind of dedicated gpu. I got this 20% off mystery coupon so yeah... I'd like to have opinions from people in knowledge of the latest mishaps going on.

    *Is the dell studio 15 heavy, I intend to take it out everyday.

    dell studio 15 is a little over 6 pounds..... maybe in the heavier side of mainstream 15" notebooks

    late august... do u need ur laptop by then? it takes about 2-4 weeks from order to getting your laptop, pending delays

    new systems possibly montevina + XPS... (kinda weird studio isnt delayed to be released with montevina), though montevina isnt that much a needed improvement

    m1530 is a nice system to consider if you have $, otherwise studio 15's dedicated gpu isnt that good, but what do you need the gpu for ? (light gaming, CAD....?)

    Montevina may not be on the XPS by the end of august, which will be too late for you to order anyways, since you need it by the end of august. Personally, I would recommend the Dell XPS M1530, it's a great machine. Just be sure to wait a little to find a coupon/deal, and be sure to give dell up to a month to make your machine. Though, if you want a Studio 15 over the m1530, thats up to you. The m1530 is a larger and heavier machine, but they incorporate very similar features, though the Studio 15 doesn't have the same GPU's as the m1530.

    why wont montevina his the XPS line until the end of august?

    supposedly the intergrated chips are what are delayed. they won't be availbile until the end of august. however anything with a dedicated GPU will be availible july 14th. (HP, Lenovo, and a few others.) so is dell going to buck their competition? i really hope not and don't think so.
    any idea why Montevina was delayed? it was to get registered with the wireless standards or the FCC something. it was all paperwork. they have the chips, they just needed approval. HP starts shipping the 14th, and i'd hope dell would do the same. otherwise they've lost my business.

    @ben

    I am from CA.

    Btw, I got my Xps 420 in three days. I doubt I will wait very long. I don't mind waiting till September.

    I wouldn't mind a notebook on the heavy side but if dishing out a little extra $$$ could be me a new XPS notebook I'd be set for a long time.

    I don't plan on using the notebook for gaming but I use photoshop daily, I also heard dedicated cards give more loose to the MOBO so I figure it helps running applications faster.

    Thanks for the replies up till now!
