Hi
As the title says, i don't really need a new notebook right away. I don't really care about ivy bridge processor, but i would like to have stronger GPU than GT555M. When do you expect l703x to come out?
-
The Kepler series of graphics cards aren't due to be released for another couple of months.
From what I have read it's looking to be an April/May release. I don't know will the include the mobile series though.
But if you don't need a laptop now and are willing to wait then I would definitely wait as Kepler is rumoured to be pretty good. The only issue with the L703x is it will probably come with an Ivy-bridge CPU too, which seems to be delayed until summer, so Dell might not release the L703x until they can get Ivy-bridge. But I have no idea really.
If you have a PC/Laptop already and are not in a rush I would wait, it should be worth it! -
Ok, thanks, guess i'll wait then.

You answered your question yourself with the first post. If you are not in a rush and don't need a new notebook, why wouldn't you wait?
I too had to decide on whether to wait or get one now, but I sold my old notebook and only had my 5 yr old desktop, which i refuse to use anymore. Can't do without a notebook for several months so I pulled the trigger on the 702x.
I only wonder, will the 703x replace the 702x but keep the old price tag or will it cost considerably more since it's brand new? Would be a bummer to find out that for the same money I would have got a newer generation GPU and CPU, only a few months later.
I know tech is progressing constantly and you always can play the waiting game, but upgrading at the end of a technology cycle just before the release of a new one really isn't the best thing to do if you are not at least saving good money. -
If you are going to wait, I would wait at least three months after the new release to see what new problems arise from the first gen of new processors. The first I3, I5, and I7's had their own issues. Just my opinion.

yes. better waiting. if you not really need computer now. you has a money, you always can but better IT product.
also, ivy-bridge dell may fix the high temperature problems, many dell user already complain about this. that is important.
for examples my friend waiting until first day sandy bridge release, order the macbook pro, now up to 1 year, not out off day.
when you now buy sandy bridge, 3 month may andy bridge out of day. also, dell may not support windows 8 deriver for old model xps. -
Thanks to all of you. I hope it won't take more than 4 months for the new model to come out, cause that's when my school ends

Sorry to bump an old thread, but do you guys have any idea when Dell will refresh their line up?

Oh really? As in they won't be releasing a new XPS 17?
I am looking into XPS, but would rather wait if the new generation is imminent.

Im pretty sure they are dropping the xps 17 for the inspiron 17r. They've already refreshed the xps 15.

Hi everyone. I'm new here, but have to add some info to this thread, in case someone else is still reading it.
There is no XPS 17 with the backlit keyboard anymore. They ran out and said they aren't expected in, so only standard keyboards from now on. Also, Dell still isn't saying yes or no about a new XPS 17 3D model. I purchased one of the new Inspiron 17R "Special Edition"s...sent it back because there was a touchpad problem. Sometimes a feather would suffice to "click" while others needed a 10 lb. sledge! Dell sent another...same thing, and same result, sent it back. Asked if Dell used the same touchpads in the 17Rs and the XPSs because I bought a new XPS 17, and it had no problems, but after only having it for 4 days, Dell listed it for $100 less in the 2011 Clearance Items! I felt cheated somehow, so sent it back.
Now, because of all the returns, Dell says it will charge me up to 30% restocking fee. Can you guess what I told Dell?
Hope I'm still welcome...

Oh..I forgot what I was saying about the touchpads...Duh!
Anyway, was told the touchpads were the same. Didn't make sense to me since I didn't have the same problem on the XPS as I did with the Inspiron 17R "Special Edition." And, since I sent that last one back, Dell has come out with a beefier 17R "SE"...has an added TB HDD @ 5400, and a 32GB SSD.

Should i go for l702x or wait for l703x?
