I don't know exactly what it's called but it's a cover at the bottom of the lid on the outside. It's not sitting flush, see included pictures.

I'm pretty technically/mechanically inclined, could i possibly fix this myself? Anyone else have this problem and was able to fix it?? If i knew exactly how to remove it without breaking anything or making it worse, i would.
I also noticed the LED on the power button isn't aligned properly. It's more on one side of the button.
Should i call Dell and ask them to replace it? Will they send out a replacement or a tech?
-
just return it
-
Cant you force it in?
-
-
Sounds like someone put it together in a crappy fashion. My pc came with a few scrapes here and there, but overall its well put together. I'd return it, but don't listen to me, cuz i didn't return it for my scrapes
-
just return it. after shelling out a lot of dough for a large hunk of metal , plastic and silicon, it better be perfect!!!! and no im not drunk
-
Hey, In agreement...don't try and fix yourself something you paid $$$ for.
Return it, and have Dell replace with a new one.
Sorry for your having this issue.... -
I had a similar issue when I got my m1330. I ended up getting $400 off the cost rather than sending it back. Since it's purely a cosmetic issue, I decided $400 off was better that wasting my time sending it back and waiting again for a replacement.
-
I'd call up ell, talk to a supervisor and tell them how unhappy you are. You paid good money for it so they should make it right. You wouldn't buy a shirt with a stain on it....
-
Either have Dell send a tech onsite to fix it, or return it. Don't try to fix it yourself since any internal notebook surgery will void Dell's warranty unless done by a Dell-dispatched tech.
-
You'll need to replace the entire top lid to fix that.
See if you can get a discount instead of sending it back......odds are it'll be easy to get one because then Dell doesn't have to worry about taking a return. It's just a cosmetic issue and won't affect the functionality of the laptop. -

I have the excat same problem as elwood. The strip with XPS on it isn't fitted properly on my M1530 too. Nothing i did could force the strip into place properly. I think in order to fix it the entire lid might have to be dismantled.
In my case tech support has refused to fix it since they say its cosmetic and does not affect the function of the machine.. -
I talked to tech support via live chat and they told me that they could send a tech out to fix it but whatever he had to replace would be with refurbished parts.
He suggested since it was under 21 days since invoice that i call customer service and just have a brand new replacement sent. He gave me a case number.
I called customer service and gave them the case number and briefly explained the problem. In a few minutes they had another identical system on order with overnight shipping at no cost. I tried getting them to throw in a year or two of free warranty but she didn't budge. She kept wanting to send me to the warranty department to buy extra warranty.
I don't really think i could've lived with the way it looked. I know it is only cosmetic but it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Thanks for the opinions!
Should i return my M1530 for this? Can i fix it myself?
