Should we start an Official 1640/1645 and Windows 7 thread?

What does everyone think about starting a dedicated thread for the XPS 1640 (and 1645?) with Windows 7? ("Official 1640/1645 and Windows 7 Thread")

I think starting now, there will be a flurry of driver updates, behaviors, tips, questions, etc., and it seems it would benefit everyone to have all those in one place instead of having to search through a myriad of individual posts.

Or, let us know if there already is one!

    Thanks.

We already have an Official i7 1645 Thread that is suffucient enough I feel...and I am keeping it updated with drivers as such already.....and any necessary updates (Post #1 - this has been done for the 1640 thread also..by the other OP).

No need to overprocess with another thread on the 1645.

True, but that thread is very long, littered with posts about unit pricing, post from people that are thinking of buying a 1645, and non-Windows 7 questions.

My intent was to have a thread that does not have the a bunch of of "Look what I just bought", "Look what I'm thinking of buying", and "Is this a good price" posts. JUST users who actually have a 1640/1645 with Windows 7 and their experiences.

Your going to have a very hard time policing that. Because the 1645 thread is already containing Owners who already will be owning a 1645 w/Windows 7 once it arrives. Thats why I created the thread. Because Peeps are going to be receiving their 1645's very soon.

Look at every *Official*…thread that has been created..It has been extremely hard to keep on topic to the *Thread* title at hand. And, I don’t think your going to be able to find a Moderator that is going to have the time to weed thru the *posts* that are not applicable to the thread.

    To your post:
I think the only beneficial thing to do, and it is time to request that it be done now: Is to request to have a *stickied* thread made like the one for the XPS 1530 (Top 10 Questions about the M1530). We would have to make the thread, of course. And, get permission first for the *stickied* thread.

We could take the common questions; Drivers; Helpful links, and make it into and Official Guide for the Studio XPS 1340/1640/1645 – Window 7 / (even Vista) line, and request that it be stickied. That ways it’s at the top. Conversation is limited to the Topic at hand. And, it can always be updated.

What do you think? I have a semi-helpful link’s setup already for the 1645, and can help with Customer Service input, etc. You seem to have some good ideas..I think if a few us *put*our heads together, this should be simple and quick. :D

Let me know, and I can request permission. ;)

Yes we do, and I have posted up some reviews of the system, comparing the screen to a Macbook Pro, as well as loading up a ton of apps and reporting the performance. Come join us!

CIn - As a 1340 owner running the Windows 7 RC for many months, I would certainly appreciate such a thread. My official versions of Windows 7 arrived today from PC World - 1 Home Premium and 1 Professional. I plan to reformat my 1340 hard disk, create some partitions and start with a fresh install.

We would need to ensure that driver recommendations etc. were specified for the appropriate machine due to their quite different hardware.

Sorry to take this partly off topic, but can anyone recommend reliable software for creating and modifying partitions on live systems using Windows 7? All part of my Windows 7 re-installation plans.

    Thanks

    Geoff

Are you referring to what I am suggesting. a *stickied* thread* that always is at the top as I described in my post a few above...like the XPS 1530 one? :)

    I agree with Geofff

I have been using the 1645 for several days now running W7: everything has been perfect and in fact: LIGHTENING FAST!

If you want me to point you to drivers or have any questions for me, please do ask!
