If you've purchased from the outlet and don't mind posting a photo of your XPS machine, then post away.![]()
Just hoping to get some idea on how the refurbs look like. I've been told that they look like new - seems like a good way to save on my future purchases.
Thanks!![]()

I don't have a picture atm, unless you want one of my desktop.
From what I've heard, if you get any cosmetic blemishes, you can call Dell and have them send new parts, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Post specs! -
i have heard tghey are almost always flawless im considering one myself

My m1330 looks brand new, unless you flip it over, where you'll find a decal which says "Refurbished"...
Other then that, I'd challenge anyone to be able to find a single flaw, scratch or blemish!
I've had mine for about three months, and so far, I'm absolutely thrilled!
With in home service, should anything go wrong which Dell can't repair over the phone, Dell will send a tech to my home on the next business day . I don't see how I can go wrong.
And, as someone mentioned, you have 21 days to send it back if you're unhappy.
It's a great way to save a lot of money, or simply get more machine for what you're willing to spend!
(Sorry, don't have any photos, but really, it looks like a brand new m1330 with the Black lid. Nothing to see....) -

^^ exactly..

If not for the fact that Dell outlet's available in Canada, I would've went to refurb as well. (Technically, there is one in Canada... but they sell really outdated laptops... heck, they don't even have inspirons..)
If I go to US after undergrad... I think I'll go for it. The cost is cheap and the quality is pretty good, or so I was told anyway. Another reason to get a good mark... in a very twisted way... -

Mine is cosmetically flawless but has an issue with not starting when I hit the power button. I'm not sure what is exactly wrong and since I've had such trouble with dell I was going to just return it till when I went to do that she informed me a tech would be out to fix her up. Today I already got a box and inside was what appeared to be a different motherboard. So if this problem gets fixed then my laptop will be perfect.
Sorry for the crazy wires. This is my first laptop and I just moved everything from my desktop over for now. -
Good to know it'll be fixed pretty soon. -

There isn't much to see on the outside. It looks good and there are no dents or scratches. The sides are also in perfect condition. I'd saw the only downside to ordering from the outlet is if you get a system that has a power up problem and a windows crash. It took me a good hour to figure out what exactly was going on and after I just reinstalled the computer worked fine. I didn't even want a T9300 but since the price was right I went with it.

17" laptops are nice. You can get some really nice specs and cases at 17". Maybe in a year or two after I get over the thrill of my first laptop I'll move onto a 17"

I ordered a Dell 1330 Refurb. "Certified Refurb" - Which means it should've been like new.
I went through three systems, all that were dirty and could've been considered scratch and dent or had scratches on LED LCD's etc. On the fourth return and replacement it was perfect. The process took about 6 weeks, and Dell let me keep each subsequent laptop until they sent out the next one. In the end I ended up with a better system then I had originally ordered and even a few free gifts. I would recommend it and do it again, it was my first attempt to get a refurb laptop, but I have had several refurb desktops in the past with no fuss.
I would recommend refurb again, while it was frustrating to sort it out, (easier to work with the sales dept, they speak english without the heavy accent) ;-) - But what made it bearable was that Dell didn't make me pre-send the "blemished" system back while waiting for the next was ideal and necessary. -
^^^ makes me leary about buying a certified refurb from another seller than from dell???

Not sure if this is going to work, haven't posted photos on this site yet, but here's (my attempt at) photos of my m1330...

The photo of the lid looks like it has marks on it, I guess because I used a flash, but it is in perfect condition, no blemishes, scratches, etc.
Laptop is also turned on, but connected to external monitor so nothing is showing on the screen. -
I don't have pics but I can assure you I thoroughly inspected my M1530 refurb. There are no marks whatsoever, it is in perfect shape. As said you wouldn't know unless you look at the refurbish sticker on the bottom.
Got a sweet deal too:
$1389
Midnight Blue
LED LCD
T9500 2.6GHz Core2 Duo
4GB RAM
320GB 5400rpm
Vista Premium
Bluetooth
8600GT 256MB
1395 Dell Wireless (only part I'd like to change)
9-cell battery
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition -
Received my refurb m1330 today, just reinstalled with xp and the unit both works and looks much better than expected.
I'm joining the choir - save the environment, buy a refurb today! -
Damn, just saw a T9300, 4GB, 8600M GT, WSXGA+, 250 @ 5400, and Audigy for $1079... I wish I would've bought refurb now...

I'm more interested in pictures of refurbed laptops WITH scratches. Since even Dell stated that there may have some observable cosmetic blemishes, hence the cheaper pricing.
Only thing stopping me from getting a refurbed m1330 would be the possibility of receiving one with VERY NOTICEABLE scratches that belongs to the Scratch and Dents category rather than the Certified Refurbish.
And since we don't really get to see any images of the laptop itself at all, it only further adds to my uneasiness.
So in a way, its more like a gamble....to me. -
Not a gamble at all. Make sure you order with condition certified refurbished rather than scratch and dent.
Then, even if it has more observable damage than you feel it should. Which is what happened to me 3 times. Call and complained and say this laptop should be a scratch and dent, I ordered a certified refurbished. At that point you will either A) they will send you a prepaid mailer and you can ship it back and once they receive it they will credit your card or B) They will let you *keep* it while they search for 7 days for an identical model, if after 7 days they can't find an identical model they send you an upgraded model, once you receive the replacement you have to send back the old one. This happened to me 3 times. First time the laptop was very dirty and literally had pieces falling off. Second time I was so excited because it looked beautiful until I turned it on: the laptop had taken a severe hit to the LED LCD because you could see the round XPS emblem emblazoned through on the viewing surface. Third time was a charm.
One thing to note: My original order had a 6-cell my 2nd order had a 9-cell and my third order had the 6-cell again. It appears when they are matching up replacement laptops they are rather indifferent about "accessories".
Best,
Nathan -
Wow. I should have re-read that. I hope it made sense!
One more thing to side-note, I am sure when you got the replacement if you wanted to keep the 9-cell and send back the 6-cell or vice versa, they wouldn't even notice. -

I'll be calling on today or Saturday to talk about a return of my laptop. It may be scratch free but it is far from problem free. Considering we only have 21 days to return and they're telling me to wait on a tech to come I'm just going to return it. Plus I found out after using a friends laptop that it wasn't me for why the fingerprint scanner didn't work. Also the second headphone jack doesn't work but that doesn't matter that much.
-
As for the accessories differences, would it be just the batteries?
Also, all 3 of the laptops you received retained the same color lid, right? Or does Dell just send you whatever they have with the closest specs possible? -
so pretty much everyone agrees that there is nothing to worry about as far as cosmetic condition of a cert refurb??.. i just bought a 1730 off of a reseller since i could not find one on dell's web site before i did this.. of course my luck 2 popped up the same night i sent him payment .. so i was a bit annoyed.. but this means that ill be stuck with what i get i guess. he swears its flawless and i will not find anything on it but i still worry about finding small nicks or chips on the edges or corners or scracthes in the gloss finish etc...he has 100% feedback on ebay so i am hoping he is true to his word on that. he said they inspected it to make sure it looked new.
hopefully he is telling me the truth. it included 3 year in home next business day service but not complete care and its over 21 days so im not sure ill be able to do anything about blemished if there are any..
anyone have any thoughts about this?? should i be worried.. if anything major is wrong you think dell will take care of me??
thanks i hope someone can relieve my worrying a bit -
Yup, mine is perfect, working perfect as well so far, just opened yesterday,
only thing i found was the WLAN cover on the bottom wasn't in place, i had to press the edges in and tighten the screw now it looks new, Crimson Red is NICE!!!!!!!
Show me your refurbs...
