I have read threads about Skype and windows 7, Skype and Dell XPS 1640and IDT codec sound drivers having issues. I have an XPS 1340 with IDT for sound software, I have had my machine running good for about a month now, after I did a complete system restore 3 times. So, I was wondering can anyone recommend a Skype version that is pretty friendly with the XPS 1340. or can I use the IDT drivers for the 1640 that I read about working with Skype. Any suggestions. Thanks

Just to state I had said problems with SKYPE, all other chat apps worked fine on my M1330 XPS. The problem I had was my audio to others would cut off and 99% of the time be distorted out going audio but incoming would be fine. When the 1645 SXPS came out I used their Win 7 audio drivers and every thing has worked perfect since so it's worth a shot to try them. ;)

Thanks a friend has been asking me to install a chat/video program. I tried skype prior to my 3 system restores and it had issues. but, I don't remember the audio being one of them. I'm trying to decide weather try Skype again since they say the latest version is more Windows 7 friendly or just try the google chat. From what you say maybe I should give the XPS 1645 IDT audio drivers a try Hmmmm.

Skype I had working with Win 7 from beta stage, but on my M1330 all other chat apps worked fine back then just skype was the problem with my out going mic audio that was until I used drivers from SXPS 1645.
Try this it may help go into the Sound settings in Control Panel and disable audio enhancements in both Play and record devices and save. Try this with your current drivers and if you install SXPS drivers. ;)
By the way I'm running 64bit.
