I tried it out in the thieves guild and there wasn't any improvement still like 18 fps but i get 35-50 everywhere else. I do notice a dip in fps everytime there is fog so it must be the GPU struggling and as there is alot of fog in the thieves guild that why i get such a drop.

Like I said, volumetric lighting. My solutions are to turn down shadows and AA (which you probably do already), and just look away from the center of the room.

Is the game playable really? I had oblivion running on low at barely playable on My current crud laptop. Could play but lags make me sad. I wanna be impressed with My new laptop when it comes

I can assure you, skyrim runs just fine, even at raised settings (though the "high" setting the game will likely auto-assign you will chug at 1080p. Lower the res, AA, and shadows and set everything else max and you're in for a treat. If you want 0 lag ever, all low settings at 720p doesn't look too bad, though as I have said you are by no means limited to that

Guys, apparently the SkyBoost mod is better than TESVAL for increasing performance, do a search in google as its not on the nexus.

Thieves guild is trouble (or poorly optimized) even for the most powerful graphics, as I get low 20's in there on my m18x with dual 6990's.
Interesting fact is that I get very similar fps on the single 6990 when I play on m17x.
I'm awaiting delivery of xps 15z today, wonder what kind of fps I get with 525m, I read that some ppl play it in full HD on this card, might be that game runs just generally better on nvidia cards..

The opening sequence runs pretty badly even on my 555m but the rest of the game runs a lot better. Are you getting the 540m?

i went for the i5 2430 aswell, didnt fancy i7 in this super slim chassis, read lots of reports of cpu temperatures running into 80s even 90s celsius.
tried running skyrim and was pleasantly surprised, 1366x768 and ultra settings and its very smooth, im guessing 30+ fps.
tried oc the 525m aswell, got it to run on 540m core speed and 550m core speed stable, run 3dmark vantage and got 4560 points, which is very decent for this card i think.
what im most happy about is how cool the laptop is, i read lots of reports ppl getting 90+ temperatures on the cpu and this i5 runs extremely cool even under heavy load, got 65c max both on gpu and cpu while running skyrim and vantage.

How are the fans? My current Laptop sounds like an f14 engine all the time

Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using Tapatalk

im sure i'm gonna be blown away by performance of my current games, starcraft 2, street fighter, mass effect 2/ but i worry skyrim will be around 50fps on medium settings, low shadows, no aa, 720p res, even 1280 res is fine.

Don't worry, the game looks great. I play on 1600x900, high preset, turn off aa, set shadows to low. Fxaa if you want it. I've also gotten away with 1367x768, ultra preset, no aa with fxaa on, shadows low. Both are acceptable.
As for older games, go ahead and max those out :)

Despite the problems reported by some with the Nvidia 290.53 Beta driver, I've been using it for at least 3 weeks now without issue. I don't normally install Beta drivers, but in this case I went for it since the install notes indicated specific Skyrim optimizations to the tune of 25%. I can't say I notice a HUGE difference in FPS, though.

I haven't had any problems with the 290.53 beta driver other than my Nvidia notification icon keeps disappearing after I reboot, I would have to re enable it every time in the control panel if I wanted to see it. At least the GPU activity comes back after reboots.

Skyrim is running near flawlessly on my L502x with the 290.53 driver, running everything on high except shadows (low), AA off but FXAA on and at 720p. As for the 295.51 driver, Skyrim gives a "code 51" error in Steam and won't start. I haven't found or seen a workaround yet for this...

Just installed the new Nvidia 295.73 driver and the game seems to be stable with it. I'm running game Patch 1.4.21.0.4 and haven't had a crash to desktop in quite a while. The latest game patch also seems to have fixed a crash I was getting when trying to enter Northwatch Keep (to complete the Missing In Action quest).

Running skyrim on xps 15, i7, 525m 1gb. If I play on 1080p the fps lag is unbearable. I can move around but the skipping really seems to ruin the game. Even if I lower the resolution, the gameplay still lags. The mouse sepcifically feels extremely slow in registering. Any ideas?

Numerous people on this forum are playing at 1080p without issue. What you describe sounds like you are running on the Intel graphics. Make sure both TESV.EXE and SKYRIMLAUNCHER.EXE are set to run with Nvidia graphics.

Make sure you are running the latest Patch for Skyrim as well as using a recent Nvidia driver (such as 295.73). Both of these updates contain specific performance optimizations for the game.

Also, make sure you are plugged in to AC power while playing, else your power config plan may be holding you back as well. Not to mention your playing time would be short.

Have you tried lowering the settings? Especially shadows. You can also try overclocking.

does anyone notice skyrim has a problem in directx 9 well i mean any game that starts in directx 9 mode seems to crash when you have overclocked

i managed to overclock my gt525m to 830 clock and was fit to play saints row the third in direct x 11 mode for hours on end without 1 single crash then when you fire up skyrim at the same clock but only in direct x 9 as that is all skyrim will run in, you will then get a laptop lockup almost immediately, something is seriously wrong with the direct x 9 on these cards as directx 11 games can play just fine
