    Hi Guys,
I have been having problems with sleep and hibernate since I did a fresh vista 32 install on my Dell XPS 1530.

Before you reply with suggestions, please read below what I already tried. I have done A LOT of research here on the forum, other forums, and microsoft vista documents.

    The problem:
    - If I set computer to sleep, it restarts with the error "windows didn't shut properly..yada..yada"
    - If I set to hibernate, it does hibernate, but goes right back from hibernation. In other words, it doesn't stay hibernated.

    What I have tried:
    - disable/reenable hibernate by going into CMD, and type powercfg /hibernate off, then powercfg /hibernate on.
Also in cmd --> powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
Whichever devices are shown --> powercfg -devicedisablewake "name of device from above cmd"

    - Go to System; Device manager and uncheck all the wake options for stuff like mice, modem etc. I turned off and disable everything that I am not using

    - I have updated the BIOS

    - Have turned off on the BIOS hardware that I don't use often

    - Turned off everything I could find that had a "wake on" option.

    What else can I try?

    I really appreciate your help.

    Thanks

I just tried looking on event viewer. Weird that I set the computer to hibernate, but that's what I got on the system log.

    The system is entering sleep.

    then

The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service entered the running state.

    then

The system has resumed from sleep.

    Sleep Time: 10/22/2008 3:49:01 AM
    Wake Time: 10/22/2008 3:50:11 AM

    Wake Source: Unknown

Not sure why it mentions sleep, if it was actually hibernation

BTW, I have also removed the nvidia driver and installed again, hoping it would help fix the problem. No, it didn't help.

    Any suggestions now?

    Thanks

I was having the same problem and posted a thread on this forum.
A user named stepintoliquid replied with the following which solved my problem.

Sweet thanks. I actually have this problem too but didn't really care as I usually shut down as opposed to sleep or hibernate. But on rare occasion I would leave it idle too long and it would go to sleep and I would get the exact same message. I'll try the fix too. Cheers.
