I have the Studio XPS 13 and have had Windows freeze up sometimes when reading/burning a disc. As a result, sometimes the disc would not eject unless I reboot and eject it right when the computer POSTs. There's no status light for the disc, so you never really know what's happening other than by listening to it.

Aesthetically, I think slot loading drives are cool, but with this drive, it seems the eject is controlled electronically instead of mechanically like most other drives. So I am just wondering if there is infact some sort of way to force an eject on these slot loading drives? How reliable are these drives and is there any chance that discs may get stuck?

You should only have to tap the eject button *lightly* once..and let it cycle itself..

Here is a vid' from youtube I found that maybe helpful!
I dunno if I would ever dare try this though!...

All the eject issues Ive had so far are software issues related to windows freezing up while accessing the drive. So tapping the eject button doesn't work. Good video, I would probably only do that as a last resort.

Which drive do you have? There are a few firmware updates for the SXPS 13 on the Dell site.

Here's the link to the Drivers for your 1340.
There may be some Firmware updates, and depending on what drive you have..this might help in clearing up your issue!

As long as it ejects, even if inconvenient, at least it ejects. What sucks is when you hear the drive attempt to eject but the disc remains inside. I used a pair of very slim tweezers to get a stuck disc out once.

Try the firmware updates. I know I just got my machine today and it was 1 generation behind already. (BlueRay writer). I used to have this issue with my slot load stereo in my Escape.. Used small tweesers. Just be very careful doing that.
