My M1530 has an Optiarc AD-7640A slot loading DVD drive.

The read speed never seems to go above 4.5x when I'm copying files from a DVD. When I had a desktop, I could copy the same files at 12x (from a 5 year old Pioneer slot-loader).

Is there any way to increase the read speed of the Optiarc?

    Thanks.

EDIT: This might have something to do with it, but I get an error message saying that no ASPI manager is installed. I'm using Vista Home Premium 32bit.

I think it`s call riplock , if you try to copy a dvd it keeps your speed low, it`s an anti-piracy thing.

The fastest i could get on my Samsung was 3.2x , but my new Toshiba can read a DVD at 8x

you can bypass this on some drives, but it is likely to be against forum rules to discuss this.
