So I was changing my screen for my l502x xps 15. My other one had broke , so dell sent me a replacement screen. I accidentally left the power cable in as i was testing something prior. So when I went to connect the ribbon cable for the monitor onto my motherboard, i saw a spark. Now the laptop is not even turning on. It kinda heats up in one area near the ram , but it will not post nor turn on. How can i fix this?

500 volts of static electricity is enough to ruin a motherboard, you saw a spark. If you have the @Home its time to get someone to your house. Those guys are nice people, all my experience with @Home was awesome.
If you have the Depot thing its time to do that.
Maybe there is some tests you could do with a voltmeter? Someone else would need to provide information on that. -
Yep i called them and they are sending me a replacement motherboard. Could that spark affect other parts like the screen or keyboard?
I don';t have a voltmeter and what is teh depot thing? -
Spark is never a good thing.
Had a simular experiance on one of my laptops - screen upgrade in which I forgot to remove the AC adaptor after testing It only screwed up my Video cable and the LCD display - costly mistake on my part
You can try to swap the memory around, Use only one at a time in different slots, and try some different DIMMs if you have any around, but your Mobo maybe toasted. -
Are they sending you another motherboard to install yourself? If so, you run the risk of installing a new motherboard with a bad HD. You will be able to do barebones POST tests to determine if any components are bad.

You should never work on the inside of a computer without wearing a grounding strap. I wouldn't even change RAM modules without a grounding strap. Sure, many times you can do it without problem, but it's not worth the risk.

A ground strap ensures that you are grounded and that any static won't go to the PC. It's cheap insurance, it's much riskier to work on hardware without one.

You are so lucky. Thank your lucky stars and be super careful. Nice that Dell is being cool about this.
So i was changing....
