Where does it say XPS or have any of XPS' features?
I'm confused at what exactly you're trying to get here.

The Inspiron does look like the XPS, albeit with cheaper material for the build.

Uh OK let me break it down for you. The rumor is that the XPS line is being discontinued and that they are just going to have XPS versions of the Inspiron and Studio lines. This computer doesn't currently say XPS or have any XPS features but it does look like the current XPS's which is why I asked the question "Is this the future of the XPS?" If it said XPS or had the XPS features I would have said "The New XPS."

as i've said, technically XPS is called "INSPIRON XPS"...

think dell might be inching towards
    alienware = gaming
inspiron / studio line = m1330/m1530 style, less expensive but stylish

no its not the future of xps, more like the future of inspiron. The xps line has been praised for its "looks". So it would be pretty smart of dell to take those "looks" which people seem to like and apply them to the other lines.

This is the Inspiron 1318 which came out earlier this month. It has been only sold at Wal Mart until within the last week when Dell.com started to sell it.

This is not the Studio XPS 13 coming out in November.

What somekevinguy is referring to is that Dell plans to make XPS a sub brand of the Studio line. So what will remain are Inspiron for the low end, Studio mid to high (Studio XPS), and Alienware would be gaming.

You just don't get, the point is that there are rumors not to mention the story in the Wall Street Journal about this and it has been talked about here in length and so Dell comes out with a new Inspiron that looks just like the current XPS so I ask a question "Is the the future of the XPS?", and you come back with uh, "no that is an Inspiron." oh really thanks for pointing that out. I didn't say "This is the new XPS." did I? Also as others have pointed out the XPS is technicaly considered part of the Inspiron line already. I never made a statement, I only asked a question so how could I not know what I was talking about?

Here is a quote to give you a clue as to what is going on and what we have been talking about on this forum for a while now.

Mark Jarvis, head of Dell's worldwide marketing, said: "You'll soon see high-end Inspiron XPS [laptops] and high-end Studio XPS machines."

    Again ROFLMAO!

Now you don't have to agree with me(which clearly you don't), but I'm still saying thats not the future of the xps. You can brand it any way you want studio xps, inspiron xps, but an inspiron with low system specs and a recycled case design is not the future of xps.

    I never said you did

    wut...

    Storage: 160GB HDD (5400rpm)
    Optical Drive: DVD+/-RW
    Wireless: 802.11b/g
    Graphics: Intel X3100 Integrated Graphics

I wouldn't call that the future of xps...

bein the big dell supporter that i am, i can't wait to see some official releases. dell's design team has really stepped it up in the last few years. if the new xps-line is gonna look anything like the speculations...i'm gonna have to add another xps-notebook to my repertoire.

i'm really interested in how they're gonna implement this "edge to edge" or "floating display"-type display into their screen design. the sony bravia's "floating display" is one of my favorite screen designs.

Hi, somekevinguy. I already knew about that, but thanks for going that extra special mile to explain it, anyway.

The thread itself is pretty daft. I'm surprised it's not closed already. You post a question: "So is this the future of the XPS?" with a url that links to an Inspiron. Hello? What kind of responses did you expect? How are we supposed to know? And then you bite back and insult others for not knowing about the change? How noble of you.

Yes, many of us have already read that the XPS will be a premium subline of the Studio and Inspiron lines.

    Thanks for trolling by.

Since I have never seen that computer posted here and is new on the Dell site and looks really similar to the current XPS I thought I might get responses discussing the possibility of the new Inspiron XPS being in that case. I sure as hell didn't expect the first two responses to be "Uh no thats an Inspiron" and "lol thats an Inspiron" Thank you to the two captain obvious's. They obviously had no clue about the XPS lines being folded into the Inspiron and Studio lines and I am the being LOLed. If any of the people here that know anything about what we have been discussing here extensively, would have responded, we would probably have a nice thread about the possibility of this instead this horse **** we have now. You say I posted a link to an Inspiron. Do you really not think the fact that it is a completely redesigned Inspiron that just came onto Dell's site and looks really close to the current XPS means anything? Really? So I guess when I make a post and someone makes a post laughing at me and really they didn't know what they were talking about and I laugh back at them I am in the wrong?

Okay, when does it get to the point where you actually ban someone? Mods? Flagrant insults and personal attacks, more than once?? Deleting his posts obviously doesn't get the point across. Anger management? 'Roid rage? Whatever the case, this guy doesn't deserve the privilege to post here. People like this shouldn't be allowed to socialize, whether in public, or hiding behind their keyboards in their parents basement. People seize to amaze me.

I have. You flew off the handle for no reason, and now you feel attacked?!?!? Are you kidding me? A simple explanation on your part would have sufficed, without all the foul language, personal attacks, and downright ugliness. Funny how you keep going back and editing your post. And then a mod deleted your first barrage of insults. At least too many people didn't see your true colors huh? ;) Seriously dude, chill out. You have way too much time on your hands, and way too much anger to spare. Go buy a punching bag or something.

What, you have never edited a post before? I can assure it was not to hide my true colors because they don't run. I thought I did explain myself pretty good a few times without anymore insult than they were throwing my way but then when they still didn't get it after I explained myself for like the third time I admit I did start to go a little crazy. As far as time on my hands you are exactly right. I post almost exclusively from work because I work 12 hour shifts sitting in front of twelve 24" monitors monitoring an alkylation plant as a chemical engineer and I am good at my job so most of the time I have nothing to do for those 12 hours because the plant is running perfectly. As far as the punching bag I save that for my Jiu-Jitsu class after work.

I have gone back and read the thread twice. PLEASE quote anyone who insulted you. I must have missed it. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they've insulted you, lol. Maybe you're a little sensitive and quick to jump down people's throat.

    "lol"

"DARN U SHUR GOT ME LMAOROFOFLLOLMAOOMG***!!!11"

    "Yep, sure is funny."

So if you say something serious and someone laughs at you, you wouldn't consider it an insult? Up to that point I just kept explaining myself like 3 or 4 times like you said I should have done and never insulted them in anyway except for throwing ROFLMAO back at them. Maybe you better go back and read it again but pay attention this time. I didn't call them stupid and start swearing (knowing it would automaticly be edited) until they didn't understand after like the 4th time I explained to them. I think that is enough times to justify the use of that word after you explain something so obvious like 4 times and they are still acting like you are stupid.

Maybe I am just on edge waiting for my new XPS.

That must be the case, because...

Last time I checked the "LMAOROFOFLLOLMAOOMG", is no more insulting than your original "ROTFLMAO". So if you consider that an "insult", you threw out the first one.

ROTHFLMAO( no insult intended!) at what has become of this thread ;)
