Im really interested in the 1330/1530 because i need a laptop for college this fall. i've read on various forums that there is a refresh coming soon. i need this laptop by mid august when school starts. thanks
-
Same here buddy, i just need to know whether to buy a 1530 now or wait a bit, if it is definitely coming within a few weeks.
-
im wondering this about the 1730.. if i should grab one or wait
-
grab it now if u want it. the refresh will not be this cheap. infact it will be 30 to 50% more expensive.
-
Intel will release Montevina July 14th and they expect manufacturers to have machines with them by early August. So most likely in that time frame.
-
The Montevina in July 14th is only for PCs, not laptops. The laptop/mobile version comes out in August.
To be honest, I highly advise that you wait for the Montevina refresh even if it comes out in October, just because of the fact that the deals for the XPS M1530 and M1330 are horrible right now. It looks good, but it will still cost you a hefty sum of money.
Yes when a XPS refresh comes out with Montevina, it will be more expensive, but not by much. Only about 100-150 bucks, minimal difference relatively.
Though if a 25% off coupon resurfaces again (which I doubt since they want to see how well Studio sells), definitely get the M1530. If not... there is good reason to wait. -
I'd guess it's going to be really pushing it if you need it by mid-august. MAYBE if Dell does a refresh within a week or two of the announcement, and MAYBE if it ships a lot faster than new systems usually do...but it'll be cutting it really close.
I'd really like to know. I don't really care about the new chipset. I mean a faster FSB is nice, but not that huge of a deal, and nothing else with it is really relevant for a high end system IMO. But...I wouldn't mind better designs, newer GPUs, etc.
Other than the faster FSB, I don't know what else they could PUT in the 1730. It's got TWO of the very best mobile GPUs in existance, and the very fastest mobile CPU is an option, so...?
I would like an LED backlight for it, and preferably the option to select a lower resolution screen. If it had an LED backlight I would have bought one last week when it was on sale for a decent price. -
DDR3 memory, increased battery life to let you watch a full blu ray movie and have plenty of time to do something else after.
Montevina is a bigger deal than Santa Rosa is. Though like I said, at the current prices for the M1530, its better to just wait for Montevina since it wont be that much more expensive. Though if a 25% off coupon comes out.... jump on the M1530. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
"Instead, on July 14, Intel will offer a "PM" version for discrete (stand-alone) graphics chips only, Brown said. The July 14 version of the chipset can be used with discrete graphics chips from Nvidia and AMD-ATI, for example, but will not have Intel integrated graphics."
"Intel Centrino 2 processors expected on July 14 include the T9600, P8600, and P8400, running at 2.8GHz, 2.4GHz, and 2.26GHz respectively. A high-end upgrade to the current Core 2 Extreme X9000, the X9100, is also expected."
They forgot about the P9400. -
Oh, nice. So all the laptops I care about might still come trickling out in late July or August, I guess.
-
So what I want to know is, by refresh do you mean XPS with montevina chips, battery increse etc....or are we talking the whole 'shoop da whoop NEW XPS' with a whole new look, thinner design and all that good junK?just because I ordered my new xps m1330 just a while back....do you think if there are new batteries that they will be backwards compatible with the 'old' XPS'???
-
The batteries aren't changing. Montevina just brings lower power consumption on the chips for better battery life.
-
And it's not a huge deal-the CPUs are basically the exact same thing. This update does virtually nothing for anyone who wants a mid or high end system. It's just that it kind of coincides with companies updating systems.
I don't want thinner or any of that, but I do want a high end system with a good GPU, Blu Ray, and an LED backlight... -
Given that newly announced E series will now also have backlit keyboard, maybe the XPS refresh (whenever that may be) means that this will also be at least an option on the XPS also? That would be real sweet, since by all accounts, the XPS is a better than the Studio (which current has the backlit keyboard)?

I'm not sure about a 1530 type refresh even after more montevina laptops come out. The 1530 came out just 8 months ago so its not nearly as old, the design may stay the same or wil ljust be released later
So what/when is the dell xps refresh
