    Hi,

I use a Dell XPS 17 L702X laptop. I generally play games to often on this laptop and do lots of heavy multi-tasking work. So I am quite concerned about battery life.

I wish to switch using the battery and use AC power instead while playing games/ doing heavy work on the laptop.

Is there any software that can allow me to do this without having to restart my laptop? Like temporarily disable battery usage/ charging feature and use A/C power instead.

    Thanks :)

Hey if your battery is full, the laptop by itself runs on AC if you have connected it to a power source.
Second option, you can choose not to charge your battery too while your system is in use....for this you would have to go to power options and choose the last option in the left side which reads Dell Battery Meter and check the option which reads 'Turn off battery charging'...
And the last option is 'Take out the Battery'...but then if power goes off then your system might run into some issues....
    So choose whatever suits you...

Software? It's called plugging it in to a wall outlet... it automatically switches from the battery over to AC.

And why would you want to stop the battery charging anyways? It makes no effect on what power source your lappy is using...

I am wondering the same also...

Why? Because every charge/discharge wears out the battery. If you're not on the go, it's better to keep your battery at around 60% and leave it there. Also, sometimes you only need to unplug for a few seconds...and don't want to wear out the battery by recharging it.

These laptops already don't start recharging unless the battery is something like <95% charged when it starts.

Correct, and if you always shut your computer off instead if sleep or hibernate it will take days before it will start another charge cycle. And if your thinking about it just turn off charging in power settings when you don't want it to charge, Takes 10 seconds

    This quote:

...makes me think his question has nothing to do with constantly charging the battery. Seems to me he/she's under the impression it runs off the battery even when plugged in.

Also don't get why restarting the PC has anything to do with it. Either way he probably won't be back to follow up on this. Maybe when he plugs in, he has to restart for the PC to recognize the AC power source?

    IDK.
