I believe this was one of the things I also did when I was trying to solve the speaker rattle problem. I don't know if this was THE solution (as I also updated some drivers, among other things), but I don't hear the rattle anymore.

Ok I believe that you confuse problems mentioned here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=461076 and here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=369811 and on some other occasions with problem you had been experiencing, because problem that we are experiencing is hardware problem and can NOT be solved by any software update/settings whatsoever (leaving behind turning down basses by some equalizer/tuning, which is definitely not what we want is it?)

    So please stop confusing people...

Also I tried your "solution" and it doesn't change anything about sound of the laptop (neither it should)...

I am using the n newer driver from laptop2go.com but the bass has greatly reduced but no crackling sound. I wanna know which driver are all of you using, I assume the one from Dell SXPS 1645 page in Dell Support.

    Thanx

i tried this method, but i found 24 bits, 96000 hz Studio quality is much more pleasant for my ears, i also changed the balanced for right and left speakers ( L - 50; R - 30) and now i can enjoy a pleasant sound. BTW i have never heard crackling noise.

Firstly dont be adding all the blady drivers on the dell site, know what your installing. if you have added every god damm driver on the CD and on the website then you might aswell do a hard restore of your machine.

My XPS is the best to nothing. core i7 720QM with blueray can't get better then this.

So i strongly advised anyone who simply went crazy and added every god damm driver to do a hard reboot and simply change these setting.

I've had this machine since december and touch wood so far it has never failed me!

I was wondering if anyone of you noticed that if you open up the IDT control panel and turn off the Premium Sound if you notice any better sound? I have to do this every time I plug in my headphones but it really makes a difference. I also did the original poster's solution and so far so good.
