I was intrested in a new Notebook to replace my Dell Inspiron 700m

I bought an Dell XPS 2 years ago and returned it because I did not like the keyboard and VISTA. The keyboard keys were weird to me. They had no grip, felt too plasticy, hard to explain.

Does the studio xps have different type of keys? or the same keys as the basic studio?

Also whats the difference between the old XPS and the new Studio XPS?

Can I get an Intel Wifi card in it, on dells configuration it won't let me.

Overall what do you guys think of the 13 inch model?

Well on the SXPS there is:
memory(DDR3) which runs at 1066MHZ and can handle upto 8 gigs of ram,
    CPU upto Core i7,
    Has a 4670 1 Gig midlevel GPU,
runs on the GM/PM 45 chipset (not sure which)
    SXPS looks IMO loads better,
RGBLED(best screen ever on a laptop IMO),
    Multi touch trackpad,
Intel Wifi 5100 -5300 Ultimate n W/ myfi which is cool,

I have the 16 inch model and I love it also no chance of RGBLED on 13 inch and graphics card is alot better and from what i've read 13 in. model gets HOT!

I know graphics card, screen, and trackpad are different.
I think memory type, chipset and Core i7 are as well but not sure

Keyboard i feel is awesome they look like chiclet keys(macbooks) but i feel it's responsive and feels firm not too "plasticy" and i never have a problem with grip but this is just my opinion again.

All in all, i love this laptop!

Well, keyboard looks awesome on the SXPS, I have a similar keyboard on my vaio and the only grip with it is that with time they grew sticky and I don't know if it happens on SXPS but on my keyboard pieces of hair sometimes get stuck between keys.

My order includes a intel wifi mini card too.

430-2955 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card

And regarding the 13" version of the SXPS, I wouldn't go for it. Not because it's not that good, but because there are better laptops about the same size and for much less. Plus, it's heavy for a 13" laptop.

Looking at the pictures should be able to tell you most of the differences. Notable internal differences include updated P series CPU options, DDR3 RAM requirement, Hybrid SLI support, and the ability to get a discrete GPU that isn't defective :D.

You could try sony. I'm checking out HP but so far... not as powerful as XPS and very heavy aswell. If you check this forum, you'll see lots of threads regarding problems with XPS 13.

What problems specifically? Sony tends to cost quite a bit more than Dell. I'd suggest Asus before Sony.

EDIT: This is the best deal from Sony I saw.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117946

For the same price (Plus shipping on the Sony) you gain a longer battery life, finger print reader, and GPU but lose a better warranty, DDR3 memory (though this isn't much of a loss), larger hard drive space, a headphone jack (the Dell has 2), slot-load optical disc drive, and possibly the backlit keyboard.

For $25 more then you can what I would assume to be an equal GPU (We have yet to see how the 9400M G + the G210M perform in Hybrid SLI). Depending on where you live, tax may not apply on Newegg though.

If you wanted something noticeably cheaper or with a longer battery life then I'd go with something like this over either of them (though the CPU is noticeably weaker).

Hmm, weird... I thought I saw like a 950$ 13" with a 2.5 core 2 duo and 4GB RAM. Problems for the XPS 13 seems to be a lot from previous versions, so I don't know if it got fixed.

Well the XPS 13 optionally shipped with a defective GPU (the 8400M GS as was most if not all of the 8xxx series) which was Nvidia's fault and wasn't limited to Dell. The SXPS 13 uses Nvidia's 9xxx series which doesn't have the issue.

I'm looking for a laptop with a better battery life and graphics card than the Studio XPS 13" and so far I can't find any. How is the quality of the Studio XPS 13 and how long does the battery last in real life? (as opposed to the sticker battery life)

Are the complaints for the old XPS or are the 13 inch studio XPS have the same issues?

    which are what?

Well the Sony which I posted a link to would be an example of that.... The Radeon 4570 has slightly better performance than the G210M but we don't know how well the G210M performs alongside the 9400M G.

As for battery life, I usually get 2.5-3 hours out of it.

I like the HP series but I think it is easier lacking the DVD drive or SD card reader.

I heard the new XPS with Windows 7 is better, true or not? And is the led screen worth the $125?

The LED screen is pretty nice (bright, thinner, and conserves battery life) though I'm not positive it's worth $125 depending on your budget. I personally don't regret getting it at all. If you can afford the HP Envy, then chances are your budget will allow for the LED monitor ;).

You mean the XPS M1330, not the "XPS 13", optionally shipped with the 8400M GS.

when people say XPS 13 they are referring to the M1330 and when they say SXPS 13 they are referring to the 1340

+1. XPS is now a brand modifier as opposed to its own brand. E.g. The Adamo XPS can also be called an "XPS 13".

lol technically your right it can but i think you would have to say it like this so not to get it confused the Adamo XPS 13 cool design insanely thin smallest and not to mention first ever all-in-one desktop pc you can buy lol

Yeah. If an abbreviation was necessary it would probably be the "AXPS" though even this can be confusing due to the small amount of Adamo XPS units sold relative to SXPS models.
