This is my first laptop, and I don't know if this is a problem all touch pads have since this laptop is the first I've used. I have an XPS M1530 that I got in April. The cursor has gone "crazy" a few times, but that doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is that OFTEN, at least ten times daily, I have to tap the touchpad two, three, four five six up to TEN times to get it to click! I've done all the updates and played with the settings, over and over. I didn't know if that was an inherent problem to touchpads or if I need to call Dell and get a replacement.
I've had nothing but problems. This machine cost like 2500-2600 bucks, AFTER you deduct the $600 instant savings I got at the time. I open it up, and I have the crappy Samsung screen and the keyboard is buckled, along with the control panel cover. Call a technician, get a replacement screen, keyboard and cover. Another Samsung, and the keyboard isn't perfect but I'll settle for what I have now. They sent hinges instead of a control panel cover.... called again. This time got a nice LG screen and a replacement cover. I will NEVER do business with Dell again. It performs great, it's just... I expect better quality. Did I mention that the bevel around the screen doesn't stick like it should, and the hard drive thingie on the lower left corner "pops" when you gently press? Like the way a metal lid on a glass jar "pops" to let you know it's been opened. I bought this machine because it looked really attractive, I thought. And also because an Apple with the same components (actually all the components on the Apple store were, for the most part, less powerful than what Dell offered) would cost like twice as much. I guess XPS's are really like McMansions. Nice on the outside, but it's all made of ticky tacky. The screen is also pretty dim, I think. Unless it's in a room at night with no light source, it looks SO dim and I actually thought something was wrong with it until I waited until nightfall and put it up to a cheap White Westinghouse flatscreen monitor from wal-mart, and they were the same! Weird.
Also, the paint on the wrist wrest comes off. Yeah, yeah, I don't use proper typing form, and silly me for wresting my wrists on the wrist wrest (say that ten times fast), but the paint is coming off. This is retarded. Couldn't they have like, used real metal or at least water-proof paint? Oh well. My question is, is there something I can apply to the wrist wrest (and the sides that frame the keyboard) that will go ahead and safely strip this paint off of it to hurry up and get it over with. What is UNDER this paint? I see black spots. Is it solid black? What can I do to make it look better other than replacing it (because it'll just end up the same way, I promise lol), or like covering it up with stickers or something? They must have used cheap paint, because it comes off very easily. Easy enough to come off in the shape of a fingerprint. Amazing!

What is the version of your BIOS? There was an update (in May, i think), that was supposed to fix the erratic behaviour of touchpad.
-
Dell Bios 08.
The crazy cursor problem where it jumps all over the place happens so infrequently that I'm not really bothered by it, but it's just this ridiculous tapping that I have to do! I just tried to move the cursor to edit a word I misspelled. Want to know how many times I had to tap it? EIGHT! I had to fix another misspelling (ironically, I misspelled "misspelled" lol), and it took FOUR taps! -
Wow, can't anyone help me? I searched before posting but couldn't find anything about the tapping problem.

hope this helped
if the link doesn't work type this "xps m1530 touchpad problum" and the first video will be the one -
So have you tried to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad?
-
Yeah, I'm not worried about it going crazy all over the place. That happens rarely and it's no big deal. The problem is tapping.
I've played with the sensitivity and speed and it doesn't make a difference
Sometimes I have to tap TEN times to get the touchpad to work! Also, paint question!
