I have a problem with both my internal (on-board) speakers and headphones. The problem is that I only got a sound from the internal subwoofer, and the internal speakers don't work. Also I don't get any sound at all from my headphones. So the only sound I can hear comes from the subwoofer.

I have done the 32 bit diagnostics and it passed on everything. I didn’t get any error massages and both the speakers and headphones worked. So it can’t be a hardware problem.

I don’t have any question or exclamation mark for the IDT sound driver in Device manager. But I uninstalled and reinstalled the IDT driver.

But nothing worked the problem remains and I still don’t get any sound from the internal speakers or the headphones, only from the subwoofer.

The only thing I have done with my computer lately is updated BIOS to A07 (due to the well known throttling problem).

I would really appreciate some help.

I don't have much in the way of ideas. Hopefully others will. My 1645 came with several audio related programs. I don't remember them all, but the only ones I have remaining are "IDT Control Panel" and "Advanced Audio FX Engine". I got rid of the others. You could try investigating removing/re-installing the audio related software. There is also a service called "Audio Service" that you could try temporarily disabling.

I doubt any of this will help, though. If you contact Dell, they may send out a technician to service the machine.

Problem solved. Was in contact a couple of times with Dell and they said that I needed to reinstall Windows. But before I did that I reinstalled BIOS A03, and got the sound back. :) After that I updated to A07 and everything seems to work fine.

Awesome. Calling Dell and then not doing what they say is a great technique. :D
