Ive had this laptop for about 1 1/2 years not had any big problems with it.

Now it looks like we have a problem.

I dont get any sound coming out the speakers :/

if i plug headphones into the headphones socket i will get sound coming out 1 channel (left)

if i plug headphones into the MIC socket and jigger it about a bit and can get sound coming from the speakers but its tricky.

So it doesnt seem to be a problem with the soundcard anyway so i guess thats good.

Basically it looks like ill need to open the laptop and possible fix it myself or get a company to do it for me. How much you reckon this is gonna cost me?

Unfortunately im outside my years warranty with DELL.

    any help appreciated, thanks.

nobody? no-one came across this issue then?

Send it back to dell to fix? (hefty charge?) or try and fix myself?

I have the same problem. There are no sounds coming out of my speakers, but the headphone set works perfectly.

After what I have read I'm guessing it must be the socket that is the problem.
The sound card seems to work since I get sound out of the headphones.
I don't think it is possible that I have blown out all the speakers (left, right and the little sub speaker at the bottom).

So does anyone have any ideas to how to fix this or do I have to send the whole laptop to service.

I probably have to break some kind of warranty seal if I try to open the laptop myself.

Since the headphone socket is built into the motherboard, you'd probably have to replace the whole motherboard.

Yeah I was afraid of that. The laptop is only a half year old so it should go on the warranty.
I guess it's time to call Dell. I don't look forward to it since I like having my laptop and my old one is no fun to use when I'm used to this one.
