Not trying to get anyone to have buyer's remorse as there is always someone who paid less, but I would like to know if you guys found coupon codes or what not to sweeten the deal more. I've been researching the prices on dell's 17xps and finally found a decent price. Currently if you go to dell.com and when you pick the 17inch xps there will be one with an instant $519 discount. It already comes with all the upgrades. 9cell batt, lit up keyboard, 3gb video drive, dual 500gb hard drives. All I upgraded was the memory from 6 - 8gb and the monitor to from 900p to the full HD 1080. Anyhow at the end of your build use coupon code QFSNKXG0P1S1BK for $100 bucks off. my target was $1000, so I bought a nice Crumpler bag and shoulder pad from adorama.com for $100. I might do a $80 3 year warranty through squaretrade. still undecided.

I'm still waiting on the screen, but have everything else. The glare on it isn't as bad as I expected, the brightness takes care of that. As long as I don't get robbed with stuck pixels on the matte screen, the price would have come out to the same either way and I get an extra low rez replacement screen for free.

The build on my XPS seems very solid, although its quite a bit heavier than my netbook I had been using. Overall I am very pleased.

 

Is my screen matte or is it glossy/reflective? How can i tell based on reading the order online?

 

Dell is telling me that the matte screens are no available because they ran out..

This XPS 15 is good enough for me for a budget laptop...hence why I didn't get the 1080p screen for $100-150 more despite how badly everyone says the 720p screen sucks
No need for blu-ray...I don't use/buy things on disc anymore. Not with streaming content on my home network and being able to have all my movies/TV on my external HDD to connect to PS3/WD TV Live or my computers.

Finally i decided to stop looking for a cheaper deal. Its like my third day spending hours looking for cheaper deals to save what-another $100?
If I spend the same amount of money working at at 7$ job- id have earned more than 100$ lol. Time is best spend to learn some skill or work on my resume.

 

There was a 20% off coupon code for the Dell Outlet a couple months ago that I used. I think I paid $1031 originally. A TV tuner was listed in the specs, but the hardware wasn't installed when I got it. After a few phone calls with Dell Customer Service, they refunded me the $50 plus tax for that. There was also a year of in-home service that was included with the laptop that I refunded (to just keep the standard one year warranty) for $55 plus tax.

The $931 is net those two refunds. Now that I think about it, with the tax refunded for those two items I actually only paid $925 shipped!

 

Oh my goshhh!!! You know what? Last week I just bought exactly same spec laptop as yours and pay for $1101 !!!!!!!! (This is not including $202 for UK custom VAT/duty because I live in UK and also postage to UK. However it's still much cheaper than buying the same spec laptop in UK)

I hope the TV tuner hardware is not installed so I can ask them for refund since I don't really need it. You got a really really good deal

Can I ask you a question. What do you need to do to cancel in-home service to get a refund. It's just that I live in UK. Did you just give them a call and cancel it or you need to send some document?

 

I received a PDF detailing the terms of the one year in-home service agreement and there was a clause stating it could be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase for the listed price of $55. Since I got it at the Outlet, I assume that whomever built the laptop and canceled/returned it got the agreement and that's why mine came bundled with it. I doubt all of the Outlet machines have it, but I don't know for sure.

I just called and gave my order ID # and told them I'd like to return the in-home part of my warranty as such-and-such clause in the agreement I was emailed said I could. A few minutes later, the refund was processed and it showed up on my card in about a week.

 

So your laptop deal was a DELL outlet deal? That is the way to go if at all possible. I paid approx. $1240 for my DELL XPS 15 with i7663, blueray writer, 525, backlit KB and 6230 wireless

PLUS, I got a 150.00 credit on my dell account already for the hassles of having to re-order the second time (and now a third time) to get the right computer and I was promised a second additional year of the current warranty I have which is the awesome accident warranty, and extra yr was a cost of 179.00

EDIT: WooHoo, the last fast track showed up on Thursday that I was expecting (3rd one not to be what I ordered) and Dell phoned me Friday asking if I was satisfied with it. I told them no, its the wrong one again and they begged me to just cancel my fast track order and just re-order through the regular build process way. I said, why would I cancel a order when I have some discounts already applied to my dell account already? (My original rep told me he would switch the incentives over but only after I got the new laptop and 3rd fast track returned if it was the wrong order again) and then she then confirmed she would transfer all my incentives to the new order right away. I figured, why not?

That's when I told her I already made a new order though the regular build way and she did transfer all my incentives to the order I already made PLUS she gave me ANOTHER 150.00 discount for having to give up my 12 months no interest offer I had on my dell fast track order that kept showing up wrong so now my order dropped to $1405 CDN INC TAX

Yes it's outlet. The full price was $1179 Ex.Vat but I got $150 code so the total including VAT is $1101. I have checked the price and compare with other models and this price is cheap. So I bought it.

It's from dell outlet but a great price in my opinion. When I recieved the laptop, this laptop looks brand new. Its been 2 weeks and its performing like a champ. Can't really find this price anywhere new or refurbished.
