    I have a Studio XPS 1640. 2.4 GHZ, 4GB Ram, ATI 4670.

When Playing the Starcraft 2 Beta my computer runs it fine for 1/2 a game to 1 game but then slows down a ton and my computer becomes unresponsive. I havn't really been paying attention to these forums lately but I noticed a lot of topic about xps 16 throttling and was wondering if this might be related.

Read the 1640 throttling topic. You are most likely suffering from CPU throttling.
