I'm getting a stop error very frequently with my new sxps 16(running vista 64-bit). I think it has something to do with the audio b/c it only happens when I'm playing an audio file in windows media player. Whenever I'm playing an mp3 in windows media player, the song with skip and lag when I fast forward/rewind it. Then, the computer crashes to a blue stop error screen that says 0x0000003B. I believe it also said something about kcedd.sys . Has anyone had this problem? It's driving me nuts.

Looks like it's probably some software issue... Try updating or downgrading your audio drivers?

this isn't by any chance associated with the new bios upgrade that we all did. I get the stop error as well, where it stops the audio driver and the red sound icon appears. (you have to manually start it again, annoying after a while)
but from memory. Dell has said that It is acceptable in the firmware upgrade. go figure.

I did upgrade the BIOS, but I never experienced the red sound icon thing that your talking about. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio and video drivers but I don't think that worked. I'll have to take a picture of the blue screen next time it crashes.

I reformatted the hard drive because the computer kept crashing to a blue screen when I was playing audio in windows media player 11. I have windows back up and running again and it's still having the same problem!! Could it be a hardware issue? I hope to god that it isn't. No one else has experienced this issue with their studio xps 16?

I have returned two of the studio xps 13's with similar problems as you discribe. I recommend calling tech support and if they can't solve it, they'll send you another one

So is this a hardware issue? It seems like it would be a software/driver issue.

Did your studio xps 13's have Vista 64-bit installed on them? I'm thinking it might be a confilction with the IDT audio driver and vista 64-bit.

I've had some new developments. It looks like it's bad memory for my problem. I have 6 GB ram, with a 2 Gb chip and a 4gb. The 4 GB is definitely bad. I pull the 4gb, and run on the 2gb, and it runs fine. When I swap it out, it BSODs right away. This is after the diagnostics didn't pick up anything wrong during testing.

I don't know how much ram you have, but you may want to pull one out at a time, to see if it still crashes or not.

    Good Luck

I'm running 4gb of ram; it's just the stock ram that came with the computer. Just to clarify, you're having the same problem as I'm having right? Is it only occurring when you're playing audio on windows media player? The stop error has only happened to me when I'm playing an audio file in windows media player 11.

I ran the dell diagnostic tests on all of my hardware and it passed every test. If I installed windows from scratch and installed all of the updated drivers, how could it be software related??
