I have the infamous Samsung SEC3350 screen with a native resolution of 1680x1050, I know alot of people from the forums have been complaining about the display quality of this particular screen but in the 5 or so month I've had this laptop, I have found it tolerable, this is not to say that the SEC3350 is a great screen, its miles behind the 1680x1050 Chi Mei screen I have on my 2 year old Asus V1JP, but yea it didnt bother me,
until this happened today whilst playing an online computer game.

The left half of my screen has completely died, the screen function as normal I can still see everything but there is almost no light emitting from the left portion of the screen, its extreme dark. I put it together with my Asus for easy comparison.
Here is another shot with the lights turned off

After close inspection, the color of the left side is completely off too, there is a purple/pink shade covering the the screen.
Has anyone else came across this problem before? How can I go about fixing this? I really dont want to send in my laptop for service because I need it for work and I dont have a replacement (my brother is using the Asus).
If I do claim warranty I would like to use this opportunity to get rid of the Samsung screen, does anyone know if they still carry the old Samsung displays? And how long will this whole process take approx?
Thanx in advance

Goodness...and ouch
First, of all let us know what kind of warranty you have...Do you have *on-site service* with your warranty? Where the tech can come out and fix your 1530?
I don't think there is a way of fixing that...it's looks like it is going to need to be replaced...
Unless, someone else here has a better option...

I did not purchase any additional warranty, I only have the standard 1 year XPS service.
edit: Just checked my account, yes I have the Next Business day on site service, does that mean they are going to bring me a new screen tomorrow? -
Call XPS Support first thing in the morning (if you wait until the evening then the repair may get pushed out a day - the parts have to be shipped Overnight to your local contract tech). Explain the symptoms. They will have you hook it up to an external monitor to confirm its not your video card (which its not, its your LCD by the looks of it). They may have you run the Dell Diagnostics.
They will end up replacing the LCD and possibly video card depending on the tech you speak with. Some of them just send out both. A contract tech will arrive to install the part(s) and take the old part(s) back for return to Dell.
There is no way to specify a certain brand of LCD as they just ship out what is available. In the end, just be happy you have coverage. Just think how much you would have to fork out if you werent covered... ouch -
Thanx for your input, yea i guess i really shouldnt be picky what screen i get, i just want the problem solved because i use my laptop everyday for both work and entertainment and its really stressing on the eyes having to use a display like that.
Im glad a tech is coming on wednesday to get this fixed, Dell Customer support is top notch -

On-site service is good...they replaced my Motherboard a few months back, and did a great job
I hope all go's well for you, and you get a great screen: )
