Hello
I have experienced a strane problem with bluetooth. Generally it works fine, but sometimes when I connect some some kind of device (Nokia 6300 phone) and after some time turn off bluetooth(the switch on the right side) without turning of bluetooth in the phone, the whole BT module in Vista just hangs. The BT icon is available but no BT adapter is found (the system does not recognize the Dell Bluetooth Module) and it does not help to turn on and off for few times. But the worst is the fact, that after the BT maodule hangs i cannot turn off or suspend the computer. It just hangs at the Shutting down screen forever the only thing I can do is to turn it off by holding power button for longer time... When I first disconnet all BT devices and then turn off the BT module everything's OK and no other problems occur. Is this a driver or hardware issue ?
I have XPS M1530 with Vista SP1 (all updates applyed)
Thanks for yor help. Sorry for my English.

well I don't know if its a hardware or software issue, but the way to turn off the bluetooth devices / adapter would be like what you said in the last line...
I always follow the usual method, turn off the bt in the phone, turn off the adapter and the hardware switch and its all fine..
If we are turning off the bluetooth hardware switch on the right, well, I would guess the application will indeed hang up. Not sure though, since I haven't tried it myself.. lol.
But if you have used the bt device for a while, and want to switch it off for a while once u finished using it, I would just turn off the adapter from the tray icon, and turn off the switch / leave it on depending on when we would probably connect it back.. -
Most likely a software/driver bug. Use the BT tray icon to turn it off.

just right click on the BT tray icon, turn off the bluetooth adapter and then turn off the hardware switch on the right side of the laptop.

But when i rigt click on it there's no option of turning BT off...

What happens with you right click on the BT icon? Btw, is that icon the blue n white symbol or the blue n red????
Know what? I think its better to Uninstall the widcomm bluetooth completely and reinstall it from the CD that came with your laptop. See if everything is fine then.
If you don't have the CD you can get it from the m1530 drivers n downloads page too... -
Widcomm? The only driver I've installed is the driver downoloaded from Dell's site. I haven't installed any additional software to support BT, it uses Vista managemnet tool
-
well I meant uninstall the bluetooth software completely.. its not an additional software, at least for me, it came shipped in.. anyway, uninstall bluetooth software and driver and reinstall everything. Try it.

IMO the problem seems solved...I'd have to take care about order of plugging and unplugging...
Strange problem with Bluetooth
