Hi everyone, looking for some guidance regarding an lcd swap.
I currently have a studio 1558 with an AU Optronics panel B156HW01 1920x1080 fhd display. I'm thinking of buying a L502X from the dell outlet store with a standard 720p display and replacing it with the FHD one I've got.
I would then take the 720p screen from the L502X and fit it into the studio 1558.
Presumably this can be done rather easily? I have read somewhere that the L501X required different ribbon cables for the FHD panel. Is this the case with the L502x? If not I presume it would be as simple as swapping them?
Many Thanks...![]()

No that will not work. L501x and L502x have a different LVDS cable which have an additional connector on the motherboard that the Studio 1558 does not have. No go.

It will work if you can order a cable from dell, though.

Hi guys so does this mean I can use my fhd panel but will need to purchase a new cable to use on the L502x?
Also, will the 720p from the L502x work properly on the studio 1558?
Thanks... -

Studio 1558 LVDS cable
XPS L501x/L502x LVDS cable. Notice the additional connector. No go.
No you can't just purchase the cable because the Studio 1558 motherboard doesn't have that additional connector. I doubt it would work, but you can try it out. Also why would you want the 720p XPS screen in your Studio? The 720p screen is awful and isn't B+RGLED, it's a just your average low end grade WLED screen and it is a major screen downgrade in terms of resolution. -
The Studio 1558 1080p screen isn't B+RGLED like the one in the XPS.
And the 720p screen in the XPS 15 is one of the worst quality ones there is (below average), so I wouldn't even go near one.
If you want to get an XPS, you might as well just get one from the Outlet with the B+RGLED screen.
