    Studio XPS 13 - Hard disk beeping?!

    My new Studio XPS 13 hard disk often emits a beeping noise when it is being accessed. Is this normal behaviour and can I turn it off?

    I noticed the beeping from the first time I turned it on. The beeping only occurs once Vista is booted (i.e. not while booting up), and when performing tasks like copying files or running a virus scan.

    I am not having any other problems with the machine, but the beeping is pretty annoying!

    Call Dell and ask them.

    Hard drives don't beep.

    Yea I'll call them tomorrow.

    It's strange, because it almost seems like a notification sound, and something that I was putting down to Vista.

    Sometimes actual "beeps" are the motherboard indicating something isn't quite right somewhere.
