I have heard of the phenomenon at simply opening the screen will block the primary air vent at the back, making the whole system run extremely hot.
If thats the case, thats stupid design![]()
This isnt too much of a problem because i dont use laptops on my lap. If i had it my way then i would ban the word laptop and use notebooks![]()
Questions:
1. It is unbearably hot? Even only with the standard GPU?
2. Does opening the screen (comfortable 90 degrees) block the vent
2. Are there any Nvidia graphics related GPU mess ups reported? (lines on screen, freezes etc
3. If you were to choose, would you go for the WLED screen upgrade OR the hybrid-SLI upgrade?
I am tempted to go for the screen upgrade instead, preserves battery life and i dont intend to run super intensive crysis like games on it
4. Whats the casual battery life with the 6 cell battery?
If someone can give with and without LED screen, it would be great

Alright, let me see if I can clear up some confusion here.
1. As of bios A06, the laptop does NOT run hot. In fact it runs quite cool, cpu and integrated graphics idle at around 40 degrees Celsius.
2. Opening the screen to 90 degrees looks like this: http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4360/042309174900.jpg
It covers half of the top row but I shouldn't really even say it's covered, it's really only deflected, see this: http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6345/042309175000.jpg
I don't know if you can tell but there is space in between the screen and the base of the computer, so the vent is NEVER COVERED, the heat is only deflected upwards.
As for heat damage to the screen, again with the newer bios update, the air that comes out is cooler. As low as 35 degrees and up to 45 degrees or so.
So I think it's safe to say that heat is NOT a problem anymore.
3. Personally I would go for the LED screen. I have the integrated graphics only and it seems adequate for casual gaming.
4. 6 cell battery life while browsing web, listening to music and word processing for me is about 3 - 3.5 hours. (my battery is relatively new)
Hope it's answers your questions! -
Yeah I picked the WLED screen over the upgraded graphics.. if you are not playing new games.. why would you want your system to drain faster and run hotter??
The WLED screen.. I am getting my system tomorrow so I have never seen it but I have heard the following from the forums about it: Awesome, Beautiful -
Just wanted to second DemonicHawk on everything said. I also put A06 on my computer and it is running cooler as well.

Good to know about A06. Here's hoping...i will update.
BTW, i have the 9500 card, so i know it's going to be hotter, but i am praying for 45C, instead of the 70C i have right now (in powersave mode no less) -
Problem i am facing is that my budget was 650 pounds at max and i was getting a decent studio but mysteriously dell removed customisation options such as LED screen and backlit keyboard. For 750 pounds stretch i am getting the hybrid SLI graphics, 320 GB 7200 rmp and 4 GB ram
For 770 i am get LED screen, 250 GB 7200 rmp and 3 GB ram. I think even with 32 bit that extra bit of RAM is crucial... upgrading the RAM aswell takes it to 790 [all this after 10% cupoun]
what do you think i should go for
EDIT: Also, how do i make sure i get the A06 BIOS? -
You can always update the bios yourself. Simply download from Dell Website, run, and done.
