no actually it was due to a crappy heatpad material.. and therefore that's bad design
-
-
its pretty much the same heatpad material used in other notebooks, dell or otherwise.
dell dosent make thermal interface materials, they buy them from a supplier that supplies other OEM's as well. -
-
the temps are well within the operating limits of the components. even the dell precisions use the same pads and these units have much higher TDP components than the sxps 13.
its not just about quality of materials, its also about time taken in the assembly stage etc.
there is nothing wrong with the 1330 other than the nvidia issue that has affected everyone -
Ghost_Boxer I recommend you stop it.
The failure in graphic cards was due to a design/material flaw in the NVidia chips.
This however was not caused by excessive temperature but by gtemperature cycles - thus in theory if your laptop ran at say 100°C for a day it would have been "healthier" afterwards than if you would have switched it on and off.
Anyway.
I think it has been established that the current Studio XPS if fine overal - at least in terms of the termal design.
And I honestly suggest you don't try to get into a fight. -
he obviously is on an attention grabbing crusade of some sort.
cant help you mate, unless you chill out and actually want to learn something about notebook design and the process behind decisions made etc.
jumping up and down making spurious claims dosent benefit anyone -
Ghost_Boxer, please do not send me any more PMs on this thread.
-
Yup, this is a design flaw in my opinion. I'm a web designer, work on a notebook all day and really worry about this issue.
But i still considering this Studio XPS 13 (or Macbook) because of nVidia 9xxx series integrated. I don't like M1330 design and nVidia 8400 to slow for me. -
well good luck with that because the macbook has that flaw too
-
i got a warning because i called this guy a idiot and i see alot of other people called him a idiot too.. he was just here to start obviously.. hope you got your rocks off, funny this thread was only 1 page last night now its 6 lol
-
im finding this thread hilarious!i dont usually comment much(silent reader type) and im still waiting for my sxps 13 but here's what i think about the whole issue. the vent might be partially blocked but i dont think that should be the reason for the high temps, i think its because there's a semi powerful GPU in it in 13 inch notebook. the lgp310 and im sure the epson na802 has similar temps. it justs that most laptops are cooler than this but i dont think its going to be much of a problem.
-
We've been discussing this since the very first guy got a 1340 in mid-January. There is a slight improvement in temperature running the laptop with the lid closed, so the vent isn't blocked. Not enough to make any significant difference.
The above poster is right. Some people have SXPS's running a little hot, but it's poor thermal paste application and similar causing it rather than the vent. My 1340 never gets too hot, even under high load. The thermal paste application was bad however, and I re-did it.
If everyone just has to keep posting threads about it, please at least test whether there's an actual temperature difference first.
edit: Forget it, this whole thread has got to be a troll by ghost_boxer. Should have just not posted and let it die. -
-
you just dont quit do you?
-
this thread should be deleted
-
the UK site dont have that... also can you tell me if this is the same as the studio xps 13 in terms of spec..??? -
the Studio XPS 1340 is the Studio XPS 13, as the XPS M1330 is the 1330, the SXPS is the 1340.
I can't believe you don't know that. -
Dude, just don't get a **** Dell. Leave us Dell owners alone, and go talk your trash in another forum. Hell, take it straight to Dell for all I care. They have a forum, too.
There is no point to this thread, and all you are doing is post-whoring. Get a life, and get a clue. Go spam the Macbook forums, I hear they have the same "design flaw". -
Edit: I am reporting this thread...I know, we shouldn't tattle... -
ghost_boxer - opening a laptop to reach non user replaceable parts is not prohibited.
Yes, it will void the warranty - unless done by Dell or an authorized repair shop, in which case the warranty will still be valid.
In fact, you can take it a step further - you can technically open a laptop and unless you break any manufacturer seals it'll still be under warranty.
Please do not post such wrong information.
And I agree with other users, this thread should be closed or deleted. -
-
indeed... this thread should have been closed now but the Mods are either away or w/e...

We're getting way too many complains about this thread and as it's practically useless I'm closing it down.
