I've been trying to decide which 13.3" laptop to buy that'll play games reasonably well. So far I've narrowed down my choices to the Studio XPS 13, the HP dv3t, and waiting for the Asus u80 series (not quite 13.3", but close enough).

On paper the Studio XPS 13 appears to be the best as its graphics is way better than the dv3t. But I've read a few reviews and the 1340 Owner's Thread and it seems like there are serious overheating issues. Can any owners chime in on whether overheating has been a problem for you?

    Alright, where to begin.

Ever since the A06 bios came out, the overheating is no longer a huge issue. I've tried the A06 with XP Pro, and also now with Vista Ultimate, and I can say when you use Vista with power saver on, the heat isn't even an issue. If you're comparing high performance, I'd say the temperature has decreased a little over all as well.

The thing you should be concerned with is build quality, I've seen many horror stories with 1340 that are terrible from day 1, and also stories where the 1340 is the best thing since sliced bread. My take is that there's some QC issue, other than that, this is a fine machine.

yep, like Stormeh has said, the overheating issues are a thing of the past, and as for quality control issues, I wouldn't let that hold you back, remember that people with problems will talk about it, while people without problems wont. So the issues may not be as widespread as it seems. My machine personally was fine and didn't have any problems.

Hope it helps you with your decision!

Thanks for the input, it's good to know that's been resolved. It's still a tough choice because the dv3t is a lot cheaper, though the Dell is a much better machine. I think I'll wait till a few people get their dv3ts and write reviews on it. If the HP gets less than stellar reviews I can confidently buy the Studio XPS.

Check out the Dell Outlet. There's cheap ones for $729 and some 15% coupons floating around. I got a scratch& dent and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Either way, it is possible to get one for less than $700 shipped! I'd recommend the LED screen and the 9500M, I didn't get those on this one but I'll probably buy one in the future with those 2 options.

A serious observiation I've made is that the exhaust fan blows basically directly at the screen. Has anyone encountered any major problems regarding this?
