I had to to a complete fresh reinstall. The DVDs have no software for the webcam nor does the website. Just spent an hour with dell chat and remote checking and they cant figure it out. They are sending someone out to replace the webcam - I think they are wrong - its a Vista 64/creative/Dell softare/driver issue. I had to do a reinstall after a BSOD. The camera worked fine until the BSOD. Any body got a solution before they butcher my new laptop??

Do you have the driver at least? That can be found here: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=290359.
Try the software found on the Latitude E6400 site: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=25&fileid=286154. That's the one I use (for my E6400), which also appears to be Creative. With luck, that might work. -
Yes, there are drivers for the webcam but no software. It should work fine with just the drivers though, in programs that use it like Messenger etc. Do a serach because there was another thread or two about it, with a link to where you could apparently get the software. But no-one with a 1340 got the software with their system.

could someone in the USofA upload (sendspace/megaupload) the webcam software for the SXPS 13. I went to
https://smartsource.dell.com/Web/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/web/main.aspx
hit register and got the following text
"Create an account to begin downloading software purchased with your system. Currently, only Studio XPS 13 and Studio XPS 16 purchased in the Americas are supported. "
As i am in the UK i cannot use it. -
the file sizes are VERY large, i will upload them later

When I did a fresh install I looked through my Windows.old . The software they loaded was Dell Webcam Center 1.01.05 dated 2008.Dell loaded web cam Manager (not center) and a bunch of different drivers and it still did not work so they were going to send a tech to replace the webcam. Anyway could not get any combo of software and driver to work so I did a factory image recovery. It works fine now.
Application Dell Webcam Center 1.01.05 dated 2008
Driver Creative 1.5.2.1227 dated 12/27/08 -
did you bother downloading drivers from dell.com? -
-
Driver Creative 1.5.2.1227 > is on the Driver disk
Dell Webcam Center 1.01.05 > downloaded it from dell site

Studio XPS Webcam software (yes i tested it and works)
http://support.us.dell.com/support/...eid=R195284&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=281996 -
Of course, sometimes it doesn't work at all, but I think that it has something to do with when Vista loads the webcam drivers. When it works, it's nifty. Nothing more.
Also, if you set it to "continuous security", it learns quicker. Can be annoying, but it helps. -
i uninstalled this crap.. but i think im going to reinstall it as the gf doesnt know how to keep off my laptop!
-
doesn't work very well (or at all) after the sun goes down, and I ain't turnin on every light in the house...I'll just type my password...gonna go play Crysis now... -
