I had to to a complete fresh reinstall. The DVDs have no software for the webcam nor does the website. Just spent an hour with dell chat and remote checking and they cant figure it out. They are sending someone out to replace the webcam - I think they are wrong - its a Vista 64/creative/Dell softare/driver issue. I had to do a reinstall after a BSOD. The camera worked fine until the BSOD. Any body got a solution before they butcher my new laptop??

Yes, there are drivers for the webcam but no software. It should work fine with just the drivers though, in programs that use it like Messenger etc. Do a serach because there was another thread or two about it, with a link to where you could apparently get the software. But no-one with a 1340 got the software with their system.

could someone in the USofA upload (sendspace/megaupload) the webcam software for the SXPS 13. I went to

    https://smartsource.dell.com/Web/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/web/main.aspx

hit register and got the following text

"Create an account to begin downloading software purchased with your system. Currently, only Studio XPS 13 and Studio XPS 16 purchased in the Americas are supported. "

As i am in the UK i cannot use it.

When I did a fresh install I looked through my Windows.old . The software they loaded was Dell Webcam Center 1.01.05 dated 2008.Dell loaded web cam Manager (not center) and a bunch of different drivers and it still did not work so they were going to send a tech to replace the webcam. Anyway could not get any combo of software and driver to work so I did a factory image recovery. It works fine now.
Application Dell Webcam Center 1.01.05 dated 2008
    Driver Creative 1.5.2.1227 dated 12/27/08

I downloaded every single driver from dell including those for StudioXPS/E6400/M1330/m1530 and every single app I could find form Dell/Creative/Web. Still would not work. I did the factory refresh as I knew it worked when I got it and I did not want a tech spending 2 hours taking my laptop apart just to tell me its not the webcam.

    so check this out..

reformat again, install the dell driver from the driver cd that dell provided with the laptop OR from here http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=290359 (this one is from march 5th - and its for the 64bit ver of vista..), reboot, then install this file here; http://www.zshare.net/download/5708277427ff36df/

there will be NO reason this doesnt work..also i noticed you said windows.old when formatting ALWAYS do a clean install ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!

    ..did i mention ALWAYS?! :)

It takes a while to learn your face, but it actually gets quite speedy after a few days. It now usually logs me in before the glowing Vista orb screen disappears...

Of course, sometimes it doesn't work at all, but I think that it has something to do with when Vista loads the webcam drivers. When it works, it's nifty. Nothing more.

Also, if you set it to "continuous security", it learns quicker. Can be annoying, but it helps.
