Hey guys,
I know most folk will suggest getting a new laptop versus trying to upgrade, however I can afford a $300 chip I cannot however afford a $2,200.00 laptop.
My my question is this. I'm wanting to upgrade my stock 2.10GHz T6500 to something closer to the 3.0GHz range say the 2.80 GHz T9600. What abouts am I looking at heat wise? Both these CPUs are dual core, can I jump to a quad core equivalent of the T9600?

I've also hear tell of the T9900 working. or rather someone was going to try it. I never seen a follow up on if it worked or not.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I don't know if quads will work, but I'm pretty sure the T9600 will work. The T9900 has the same TDP as the quads, so I'm not sure that'll work either. You probably won't notice too much of a difference between the T9600 and T9900, though.

Edit: I thought your laptop could take an X9100 but a T6500 has an 800 MHz FSB so I guess you would need to go with an X9000 which aren't as plentiful or as cheap as the X9100. It's still a good option to consider and has an adjustable multiplier so you can run these at a faster speed than any of the T series CPUs. If your laptop can run 1066 MHz FSB processors then the X9100 should be at the top of your list.

the studio 1555 isnt an "sxps", just a regular studio. Before buying any processors check to see what your mobo is compatible with. An easy way to do that would be to see what the highest option dell offered with your exact laptop and try and get one of those if it is adequate.

My paper work that came with the laptop refers to it as a "Dell Studio XPS 1555", thats the paper work that came with my software recovery disk.

Thats fine and dandy, I am just saying what the paper work says. The laptop is a bit old, almost a year I think or maybe almost 2. I got it a month before windows 7 launch.
