Really odd issue. My touchpad does not respond at all after I wake the computer from sleep mode. The mouse buttons do not work and the touchpad is completely impossible to get to move. The only solution is to shut down the computer entirely and turn it back on.

Does anyone else have this issue? I've re-installed the mouse drivers and it keeps doing it. There is no way to re-create the problem; it just happens totally randomly (and usually very inconveniently).

I had something similar with an XPS 1530. When I came out of sleep mode, the touchpad would just jump in random directions at random speeds no matter how you touched. Neither drivers nor operating system changes fixed it, I had to get my touchpad replaced.

I had this problem as well, however, since I installed the latest drivers from this website: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/15103-latest-synaptics-touchpad-drivers/ I have not experienced any of these problems. The reason that I think you are experiencing driver issues is because when you restart your computer, you are restarting the drivers and such so now it all of the sudden works. Therefore, it would make sense for new drivers to fix your issues. PM me if you are still experiencing problems, if not I'm glad I could help!

If new drivers don't fix it, you probably need it replaced... Like I said, when I had this issue it persisted across operating systems (i.e. not a driver issue)

He is not having the same issues that you were... His touchpad is simply being unresponsive, not acting up and registering incorrect movements and such as you described, which leads me to believe that synaptics is messing up and shutting down and causing the touchpad and buttons to be useless.

I also experience this problem but I am using the older drivers that allow multi touch.

This happens to me, I think it's a driver issue it's really easy to fix though, just put the computer to sleep again and wake it up. Always fixes it for me.

I had this too sometimes, just sleep and wake it up again.

There is a workaround for "dead" touchpad:
    1. Go to Control Panel / Mouse Settings
    2. Change tab to Synaptics touchpad (with synaptics logo) - pay attention to fact that no touchpad device is on the list, it has been not reinitialized after return from sleep
    3. Press Alt+Shift+I and a secret menu will appear (synaptics driver diagnostics)
    4. Click "Reset Device" - it will reset touchpad device and it will work again ;)
