I'm thinking about buying a Studio XPS 16 but I'm trying to figure out how good the 1600x900 screen is. I can't find a review on any but the 1080p RGBLED. I really don't want such a high resolution on a screen of this size though-- heck, my current 1680x1050 15.4 is too high res IMO.

So does anyone own a 1600x900? How does it compare to other WLED screens like Apples'?

The i7 units are now available with a 1680x945 screen, but I'm assuming no one has seen one yet. I don't think a bizarre resolution like that is a viable option for anyone who games though, because of the lack of support. I guess that means I need to decide whether to buy the Studio 16 ASAP, before the dual core 1600x900 is discontinued.

You don't have to force yourself to 1080p. You can always change your resolution, that's just your maximum resolution. I would take out the RGBLED offer right away if you are a HD junkie like me.

RGBLED it's also very good for multimedia. True-color just changes the perspective of the design.

Just a word though, gaming on a 1080p screen isn't as great since in order to get a sharp image you have to run the game at 1080p, which demands more from the GPU than a 720p or 1600x900 screen, while the perceived quality of the graphics is the same since it's only a 16" screen.

For example I really like my 1080p because I can do a lot more at the same time, however I doubt that I will be able to future games or even Modern Warfare 2 at max settings and 1080p.

I'll only use native resolution, so yeah, another reason to go with lower res.

You can use native resolution but increase the DPI setting, making everything take more pixels resulting in the same physical size as a lower resolution yet clearer.

I've never had any success with that (with XP). I remember reading somewhere that Vista was better than XP at that, but can anyone confirm? I don't have access to a Vista computer to experiment.

In my experience, Windows 7 does an excellent job scaling DPI for high-resolution displays.

I have the 1600x900 Resolution screen. It looks much better than my Old Vostro 1500´s screen.
Its almost too bright, that it blinding me :O !

Also, it is so much better than my Girlfriends Macbooks screen! :p that one has no pretty colours and a low contrast ratio.

    Cheers

Thanks for the input. I've been reading some more about Vista/7 scaling, and it looks like there are still problems with apps that aren't set up for dpi scaling, even though Windows itself looks good.

BTW do these screens have any graininess? A few years back I bought a Dell 1501 with glossy screen, and it was beautiful, but I was getting BSODs. So I exchanged it--- but the replacement had a terrible grainy screen. It looked similar to a matte screen.
