hey guys its Unxpextederror's husband here. even though this computer is hot to the touch and she is having a few issues with it i figure id put it threw its paces for you guys. id just like to mention before hand that we have the WLED screen (1366x768)

out of the box running with dell's 9.4 drivers it ran a 5060 in 3dmark 06
i ended up having to down grade the drivers to dell's 9.2 because i was unable to over clock with the 9.4's. however even with the 9.2 the only program that would work is AMD GPU clock tool. i was able to test it up to 749 mhz core / 945 mhz mem. it works like a charm, no artifacting or anything. with just one run threw 3dmark 06 it brought the temp up to 76C. after an 45min of looping the test the temps peaked and leveled out at 83C.
it idles around 60-63C at these clocks (stock idle is about 8C cooler)

anyways here are the results for 3dmark 06

    dell 9.4 drivers= 5060
    dell 9.2 drivers= 5004
    dell 9.2 drivers OC(749c/945m) = 5520

i have yet to test if its stable at higher clock then these. i feel as though it still has a small amount of room left, maybe another 20 mhz on ether . i haven't had time to test this out yet though. im probably going to try undervolting the CPU and see if that brings down the temps any. ill report back with the results from both the CPU and GPU when i get a chance to do it all.

this is a spiffy little computer, im sure that once we resolve the screen and power supply issues with dell that my wife will be happy with the unit. :)

dell 9.4, 9.2 video drivers? I'm assuming this is for the Studio XPS 16 you received recently? where did you find v9.4?

the 9.4 i believe came with the computer preinstalled unless my wife installed them. i believe you can download them from dells site. the 9.2's are also from dell site if you search for older drivers.

i also just found the limit of the card, its core 756 mhz /mem 954mhz with everything else stock. changing the voltage of the cpu and adjusting the fans might give it some more room but i haven't given it a try yet.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I scored a 5560 at these clocks

will report back soon with 3dmark 05 tests

    i ran 3dmark06 (1280x1080) and scored 4948 3dmarks using dell drivers and catalyst 9.2

just found out that the Core can go up higher but the memory becomes a bit unstable so i had to crank that down a bit. i was able to get 783/945 stable in 3dmark 06 however in 3dmark 05 it started showing artifacts so i had to reduce the core to 776 and it wasn't an issue after that. load temperatures didnt change however idle went up to 66-67C. these high idle temps i think are due to the fact that the GPU doesn't throttle down while sitting idle unlike when its set to the stock clocks.

here are some pics of my results @ 776c/945m

    3dmark 06 -5650

also id like to mention that then CPU doesn't go higher the 78C (speedfan)... im not sure if this is acceptable or not for these cpu's (P8700).

    Hey :)

So when you say 'Dell Drvers' you're referring to a Dell download of a Catalyst version? I didn't think Dell were even close to the 9.x series of driver?

I'm using the 9.4 Catalyst drivers, but I only got these to work because I used Mobility Mod on them.

One other question, what did u use to monitor your GPU temperature? GPUZ doesn't list mine.

you could try HWmoniter i think it gives GPU temps.

I am using the latest Dell ATI drivers (from Dell's support website). And checking my driver version from Device Manager, it says "Driver Version 8.590.0.0" only.

Any updates? I plan to open up my XPS 16 when it arrives and add some arctic silver to it and then try my hand at OC'ing the GPU. Was there any success in undervolting the CPU?
