Does anyone know what the "Independent (R.T.C.) Headphones" option in playback devices is? Seems to make no difference if I set it to default over Speakers.

Also, when plugging my external speakers into the (Dell ST23) monitor and then sending the sound through HDMI, the sound quality is distorted and awful. Has anyone else heard of this before? Is it a problem with the monitor or the laptop? Thanks.

Ok I have had time to check it out on mine it is the front headphone jack.
The way you can check is to right click on the volume control in the tool bar,
click Playback Devices, right click Speakers / Headphones, click Disable, and then plug your headphones into the first jack it should work then plug into the second jack it should not be working. There is your answer...Hopefully. lol
Just make sure and re-enable it when your are finished or your built in speakers will not work.
If this helps please give rep.
