For those of you who have a xps 16, how is your lid tension? I ask because mine seems a bit weak. When I push the lid down, about 2 1/2" from closing, it simply falls, slamming down pretty violently if I am not careful. Is this a problem anyone else has?

The tension on my m1530 is awesome. I can put the lid to within a 1/2", probably a bit less from closure and it hangs there.

I intend to call Dell and ask if there is anything that can be done but I am wondering if this is general behavior for these lids.

    Thanks!

I get about the same behavior from mine too. Opening it I think it has too much tension, I have to hold the base down to separate it from the lid.

Whether normal or not, it can be adjusted with a screw driver by tightening the screws that hold it to the frame.

Thanks for replying. It sounds like it may just be the way these are designed. I think I may give them a call to see if there are options to increase the tension. Otherwise, it isn't a huge issue, I will just have to be mindful when closing the lid.

ah, good to know. I have to get them to do some work on my m1530 so perhaps I can kill two birds with one stone. It would be my luck though that they'd have to send a different tech since it will be on two different tickets.

I am not comfortable messing with it myself and besides, I like to feel like I am getting my money's worth for that warranty. :)

first off, i'd never buy a mac, they're overpriced.

But why is it so tough for other laptop manufacturers to get the hinges right? Macs you can one-hand it

the tension on my SXPS 1640 hinge feels fine. It's not too stiff for rotation, nor will it fall when the screen is at an acute angle.

I prefer the high tension to loose hinges... seems stronger, plus it will probably weaken over time.
