So far I have only downloaded VLC media player to watch movies. However, I was wondering what codec pack is best? I'm running Windows 7, and have the RGB LED screen.

for windows 7, don't download any codec pack. it contains itself most of the codecs u'll need.
just download this player and use it:
    Media Player Classic Home Cinema

    other recommended players:
    KMPlayer
    GOM Player
these two use internal codecs so they play almost all videos after install, u can also change codec settings.
