No kidding. I thought an upgrade from my 2.2ghz xps m1530 with 2gb to my new XPS 16 with 2.4ghz and 4gb would give at least a slight improvement in performance, at least no decrease in performance.

Yet the smoothness of the machine overall is pitful! For example when I watch a DVD and type in firefox right now, the text does not come out smoothly. Also when I load a new page the browser freezes for a second until the new page pops up. Don't even start on pages with actively refreshed content (AJAX).

Is this a problem with running a x86 version of firefox? (I tried minefield, not much difference)

Haven't tried gaming performances yet, since I haven't had a chance to fully complete the download of my games. I am hoping for a bit better performance.

Also the heat issue is tragic! Normal usage is quite warm already. Although the temperature probe displays around 50-60c it feels much hotter.

Is it advisable to install a 32bit version of vista to get a smoother performance? I have heard pleasing reviews of 64bit, but I am not pleased with my experience so far.

I just got the machine a couple hours ago. Should I just return it, if it's possible, if without too much extra cost.

Regarding the heat, you can always undervolt. I've heard undervolting gives about 10c difference if not more. Not sure about the running slow part though.

The original plan was to buy the raved xps 16 while I still kept the m1530 and when the xps 16 gets here I sell the m1530 to cover the expenses.

Now I am in such a dilemma. I will give the xps 16 a spin for a couple more days see whether it should be a keeper. So far I like the keyboard and design, yet it is unable to make up for its flaws in design.

Are you sure you don't have it Power Saver mode? This machine is anything but slow.

Heh the computer it self has replied to my message.

My machine is rather choppy from time to time. However I have narrowed it down to one cause, having iTunes opened up. That's apparently causing a huge problem.

Also firefox isn't as smooth as it could be, with or without iTunes opened. I am still getting stuff loaded onto this machine

Oh yes, iTunes is a piece of crap on Windows. Which is the main reason I will not by an Apple product, but that's off topic.

I installed the iTunes crap in a virtual machine to make sure it doesn't contaminated my "real" OS and if I wanted to I could wipe it out completely off my system.

(I generally don't like Apple products either.)

I don't see what you guys are talking about, I am running 64bit Vista and everything runs smooth. Actually, it runs really fast. What processes are hogging up your resources?
