I'm about to order the Studio XPS 16 but don't know which hard drive option to pick. Can someone please tell me the pros and cons of each?! Also how hot does the laptop get compared to a Macbook Pro (which I currently own)? Thanks!

I'd go with the 7200 rpm 500GB drive, it's almost double the SSD's size and about $300 less. No clue about the temps really... I think it's alright on them, but I have no specifics.

My choice will be SSD.

SSD here too fast start up time and it runs cooler(which will definitely be good for a system like this)

Im running the 256 GB SSD right now.
No vibrations.
Less heat.
Total shock proof.
Less power consumption.
Fast!
If you need more space, just buy an eSATA 2TB drive for $150. Also, skip on the 128GB SSD, since its an older generation! -
+1 for SSD

It really depends on what you value and how much you're willing to pay for it. The only real advantage of the spinner now is it's extremely low cost per GB and absolute capacity. The SSD shipping with the SXPS 16 is a second generation Samsung unit which will pretty much blow the HDD out of the water in terms of performance. The only disadvantage is it's extremely high cost per GB and lower absolute capacity.
I would go for the SSD. It's a relatively good value as an upgrade on the SXPS 16, but if you really need the on-board storage or don't want to shell out for the SSD premium, go for the spinner. -

one question here: I have the SATA HDD in my xps 16 now but if in the future I want to plug in a SSD drive, would it be possible? They use the same interface right?
