I did mention this in another thread, but I can't find it, so please help if you have any ideas.

I bought a $10 DisplayPort cable from Monoprice and use it to connect my Studio XPS 1640 to my Dell 2408WFP, DisplayPort to DisplayPort, no adapters.

It ONLY works (I'm using it now) if I connect it AFTER powering on the machine and after the BIOS POST has completed. If it is connected before-hand, however, then the computer will not even turn on nor continue to boot up, respectively.

Monoprice sent me a replacement cable, and the symptoms are exactly the same. I tried (the old one) on a friend's XPS 1640 and his machine does the same.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any other cable I should try? Is it an electrical short of some sort?
