I own an XPS M1530, off warranty, that's having power issues. It's no longer a laptop, just a portable computer that needs to be plugged in, or it has 30-second timeframe when it can be moved from one AC adapter to another.

Does anyone know if this issue has presented in the current Studio XPS 16 product line? This issue happened to me before in an Inspiron 6000, and honestly, I'm very hesitant about giving Dell a third chance.

Are you sure this isn't just an issue of a nearly-dead battery? If you've consistently got thirty seconds to move the laptop around, it'd suggest that you're still getting a little bit of charge in and out of the battery (such that the problem isn't with the power circuitry).

No, it's the battery not taking a charge. Something isn't right with the DC adapter plug on the laptop or the board that connects it to the mobo. I've tried everything and the battery just stays in an idle state in the BIOS and in Vista.

It could be your power cord. I have an Inspiron E1505 and it did about the same thing a new power cord fixed the problem. It's probably worth a try if you haven't the power cords are pretty cheap on eBay just make sure it is Dell branded.

Already contacted Dell while the warranty was working... the new adapter didn't fix it immediately. Eventually the problem went away, now it came back.

My question is more about whether the XPS 16 has the same issue.

My SXPS 16 doesn't do that, but my 9 cell battery did go down to only lasting like 30 mins within the first 60 days of having it.
