So, I'm going to buy a 1640. That's a done deal. My question to you guys is this:

Suppose I purchase one today at full retail price. Then, in say a week, there's a 20% (or whatever) coupon that comes out, or they go on sale. Can I call Dell and ask for the difference? I know they have a 21 (or whatever) day return policy, so I would imagine the sale or coupon would have to come within that time frame. Another question: Does the return policy time begin when I order or when it ships or when I receive it?

Also, anyone have any ideas if or when these might go on sale or a coupon might come out?

    Thanks!

    Heat

I highly doubt there will be a coupon or a sale on these anytime soon as they basically just started selling. The sales and coupons don't start till Dell sees that sales are dropping, right now they don't have anything to compare current sales to.

Agree. I ordered a Studio XPS 13 yesterday and the sales rep said they don't discount them until at least a couple months after rollout.

The only coupon available now is if you're an EPP customer :(

And that really isn't a coupon. I have that discount, and you have to be affiliated in some way, like through my college. To be a coupon it has to be available to all consumers.

Agreed with the other's...EPP would be the way to go right now... ;)

Does your employer offer EPP at all? If so, you can save 7%, and any other addtl discount allowed on the EPP site for the 1640..and, if you pay with the Dell DPA an addtl 4% off. Also, remember that EPP is supposed to match or beat the consumer side site's pricing! ;)

Also, your question on the return policy...The 21 day return policy begins the date you are officially invoiced for your notebook...(usually when it's ready to ship). So, always keep that in mind ~ if you receive your Dell notebook and it's not working out. W/in 21 days: NEW replacement or refund. After 21 days: refurb!

    Hope that helps,

    Cin ;) :)

U can simply call up and try your luck. I ended up getting $150 instant discount plus a $100 Dell giftcard. It's just a phone call (and maybe 35 mins of your time incl hold time :D ) and u've got nothing to lose.

In my lifetime, I've only ordered 2 laptops from Dell....my first was the first gen XPS which I also called and got heavy discounts (God bless stackable coupons back then) even though the coupons were all invalid when I called.

I did the same thing for my XPS16 and got a fair deal (not as good as my first one but still). If you are persistent and know how to negotiate, u'll get something...trust me. With the economy this bad right now, every business is looking to get sales in one form or another. And yes, if u do call, mention the bad economy (maybe that term is getting over-abused now though ;) ) and that might help. It helped me :) .

Well, when I call my EPP manager to order a 1640, he told me to call him three days later. Because there will come out a 3 days sales promotion, upgrade CPU and Main Memory. So I call him yesterday and put my order.

Right now, the only thing I can do is to wait...

What kind of deal did you get if you waited for the 3 day sales promotion.

I have the ability to buy through EPP as well and I am planning on getting a XPS Studio 16 sometime, although I am not sure when. I wanted to wait until I could get a good coupon combination/upgrade promotion or I figured I'd wait until they started appearing in the outlet in a few months.

I just got another XPS M1530 with a Blu-Ray Burner for a steal, I don't really "need" this laptop, I just want it so I'm trying to keep myself from purchasing one until I the deals start to roll out.

Are you usually able to use a coupon in addition to EPP? I see the box to enter the coupon code is still there under EPP.

usually Dell coupons are labeled... Dell Home, Dell S&M B, Dell EPP... the coupon only works with the section that they're labelled with

there ARE Dell EPP coupons some times(i've used it to get 10% off my M1330 in July WITH the regular 7% off....), but they're usually rare... dont think i've seen a EPP coupon in 3 months...

there are Dell S&MB and Dell Home coupons valid now, but dont think they apply on the xps studio... u can check... go to slickdeals.net and search for dell coupons

Yes. Its if the company you work for, or school, is affialiated with Dell, then you can get a discount on their regular prices.

that EPP barely does anything, tax for me, brings it back up to original price. Anyone know a state they wouldnt charge tax in?

Delaware or Oregon... but it'll be difficult to fake tax exempt, too troublesome, wouldn't recommend you to do it unless you have relatives/friends in those states to hold the laptop for you...

eh @duntkno... EPP is 7%... tax is 6-10%....

    everything you buy has tax.....

If you have EPP, and have a coupon..configure your order and save it to your cart.

Then call you EPP Rep, and they are supposed to *match or beat* the coupon or deal you having going on Dells consumer site.

    Cin ;) :)
