Hi, I would like to know how do you guys handle your battery ? Do you guys leave the battery in the laptop all the time ? Do you just put it in whenever you're going mobile ? Thanks !

I have my battery in all the time; at home, battery is in + power charger plugged in.

In class, battery in, no charger. I stop using it around 10% left, after which I turn it off/sleep and then plug in charger later when I can find an outlet or get back home.

Btw...I have a 6-cell battery that came with my XPS. What's the best way to maintain its life? Should I drain it first and store it? I haven't really used it since I got the 9-cell on the day I got my XPS.

This is whet Dell says about it.
    http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/batteries_sitelet/en/batteries_faq?c=us&l=en&cs=19

Q What does Dell recommend for battery storage for a long period of time?
A When storing for more than 4 days these guidelines can better preserve the life of your battery:

Do not store batteries for long periods plugged into or attached to any power source. This includes AC adapters and laptop security carts plugged into an outlet.
Laptop batteries, including those stored in laptop systems, should maintain an Operational Storage Temperature of 0° to 35°C (32° to 95°F).
Batteries may be stored in the laptop or outside of the laptop.
Charge batteries before storing. The recommended charging time should not exceed 1 hour. Typically, this should charge the battery to between 80% and 100%. (Some discharge will take place over time. Stored batteries are expected to discharge 10-15% over a four month period, for your information.)

I treat mine like a desktop replacement so I'm always on the adapter. As a result, I just remove my battery and store it in a cool dry place until I need it (which seems to be pretty rarely). Now it is recommended that for extended storage you discharge the battery down to about 40% and then store it, but I would like an almost full battery if I ever needed it immediately. If you're not using the battery I would suggest not over-charging it on the adapter, as this will shorten its life. We could all do with some updated battery technology (it can't always be about processors and GFX cards :)) I'd drop some big ones for some new Lithium Extra Long-Non Degrading Thing-A-Ma Jig Battery :D.
