Hey guys, I have the system listed in my signature running Windows 7 Ultimate and I am having the worst time with pops and crackles sporadically throughout songs during playback. I originally thought it might have been iTunes so I have tried a few other programs with the same results. It almost seems as though it cracks every time my computer has to "think". If anyone has a way for me to solve this I would be forever thankful!

Uninstall IDT Audio Driver and let windows update do the job.

Yeah recommend this too, the IDT stuff is just bloatware anyway.

The IDT driver and software is far from bloatware.

Just because you don't use the features.

I happen to use lots of the features (5.1 analogue out, virtual 5.1 for headphones. music enhancement etc etc).

I agree. It is NOT bloatware. Who ever thinks so is a moron.

yea, I had similar problems in Vista; if you don't care about the HD audio features that IDT provides, then simply uninstall the IDT driver and let Windows install the driver for you.

I uninstalled my IDT and have regular sound, no crackling probs etc.
    sound is good now =P

On my computer, in Device Manager, under "Sound, video, and game controllers," I just see:
"ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01"
    and
    "High Definition Audio Device"

for my purposes of listening to music, watching movies (using 2.0 or 2.1 speakers), this is definitely sufficient, and I have no complaints. =)

Thanks a lot guys! I uninstalled the drivers then allowed Windows 7 to do its thing, so far so good! I want to know why the IDT stuff doesn't actually work though, shouldn't it improve the quality?

    Hi everyone..!
I own a Dell Studio XPS 1640 (runs under W7, Home Premium) since nov. 2009, and since some days I'm having a couple of problems with the audio device.
I use AIMP2 to listen to music, and suddendly the sound stops, and it appears the screen indicator of volume (the white headphone in grey background), stopping it and enabling it again...!!
I called Dell, and they wanted to reinstall the hole OS or I should pay for a better answer (...), so I didn't wanted none of this, and refused both...!! We have run a test, and it seems not to be a problem of hardware.
I have reinstalled the sound-drivers, and then I have restored to the latest version (I have done this because I lately downloaded RealPlayer, so I thought it could be related), but nothing worked.
Sometimes AIMP2, WMPlayer, RealPlayer and everything related to sound freezed (before I have reinstalled the sound-drivers and restored to the latest version), and also the sound-mixer (in the bar at right) didn't answered; but this does not happens now, just the sound stops and the indicator appears and disappears on the screen now.
I really don't know what else to do and I'm really disappointed with all this (this laptop has less than a year, and I can't listen to music...!), and would preciate any help on this matter.
Thanks a lot for answering, Pablo.

WOW everything works SO MUCH better without that IDT crap. Nothing but headaches. Crackling, audio bleed and I would always disable SRS Premium because I thought things sounded nicer without it and it would just re-enable itself.
